What, your not a fan of the infamous glide to the puck battle and try poke check the puck away along the boards?

Let's see if the flyers agree with the boards need for "jam." Greg Pateryn placed on waivers. He fights and hits but hes a borderline nhl player in the same grain as friedman but hes 6'3 220 and RH

Add to that it has been maddening seeing how many shots have been passed up for a low percentage pass. I thought one of AV's whole coaching tenets was to shoot as many pucks as possible and get to the net for rebounds and greasy goals?
-MBFlyerFan

If you go through the Flyers roster, there are not a lot of, if any, players with a shoot first mindset. Giroux was one of the few and I think he has lost it recently. I agree with you, the team as a whole needs to shoot more versus trying to make the prefect play.

The injuries are what they are. They happen.
The bigger issue is the team's lack of response to Niskanen's retirement, and the continued inability of this veteran core to start games with energy.
This is the same veteran core who didn't start with energy under Laviolette, Berube, Hakstol. Maybe the issue wasn't/isn't just the coach behind the bench?

- wbon22

Laviolette and now Berube have won cups, so its not the coaching. As I mentioned, the core players on this team Giroux, Hayes, JVR, Provorov are way too passive. Out of the group, Voracek is the only one that shows feistiness, though at times gets stupid also. We need leadership on the ice from these guys, dominating shifts that set the tone for the rest of the team. I worry it just isn't in their personalities to do so.

Who do you consider this leadership ? If we date this rebuild back to the termination of lavy through Berube Hakstol and av the only consistent leadership has been G Jake and Coots.
- Tfaehner

It is these 3 for sure, but I also include Voracek, Hayes and Provorov, because they are your highest plaid players. Leadership comes with the paycheck whether you like it or not. I don't mind saying it, I love G, but I really wouldn't mind seeing how the team would play with Couturier wearing the 'C'.

One guy isn’t going to help, but adding guys that love that part of the game is over due....word was the Flyers looked for some pieces over the break but apparently didn’t act on them. I mean Fletcher isn’t stupid, he see’s what we all see. The problem is only going to get amplified as the Flyers play the same teams over and over again. I’m not advocating adding guys who can only fight....but guys who actually who engage in the physical part of the game.

How the team would play with Couturier wearing the C? Wtf are you talking about? It would be the exact same team man.

Probably still recovering from his inauguration day celebration. Happy to be able to go a few days without Sheldon telling us all how dumb we are compared to him on a hourly basis.

So you don't think a different player wearing the 'C' would cause any change at all to the dynamics on this team? Its all a moot discussion anyway, it will never happen. This org would never do that to G unless he wanted to drop it.

Nobody. He practiced on the side with myers coots. If you want me to be honest it seemed like the flyers wanting to limit contact to only necessary contact (games)

For some reason the wheels have fallen off. A simple pass is a challenge with a few exceptions. Laughton has to stop with the dumb penalties for one. The obvious is how much the loss of Couturier hurts this team. AV has his work cut out for him to get this team working as one. Very frustrating to watch last two games as the Bruins without Pastrnak owned us. The first game was far too easy when Farabee had 4 points. He is scoreless since and Patrick is pretty much on par. Bottom line is most of this can be corrected in practice and I expect a better effort this week. NJ is not a doormat anymore folks.

True, but at least O'Brien is playing more like a player that was drafted in the 1st round. BU plays in Hockey East which is really good hockey, so the fact that O'Brien is a factor is vey encouraging.

Their struggles predate Coots' injury and Niskanen's retirement, and Gus arriving, so it's not a problem that's going to be magically solved by some silver bullet trade or roster reshuffling. They've been terrible clear back to the original return to play.

Old hockey cliche applies here... they need to really focus on keeping things simple while they work to rebuild their structure, competitiveness and confidence. And learn to play as a group again.

C'mon bro! All we need is some toughness in the lineup. Trade for someone or get Morin in there to hit sumbudy!

All joking aside, this team could use some more jam in the top-9.

Not Sam Jam, tho.
