Several years ago I got roasted here for saying the root cause of the Flyers problems was simple. The very expensive core of the team including the two guys making over $8 million per (G & Jake), along with sub par goalies and slow, unskilled forwards would continue to plague this team. Dumping the puck in and giving chase is a sure fire way to miss the playoffs. A complete rebuild was the only answer as well as a new way of playing the game. I took so much grief I stopped posting.
Well the two $8 million guys are still here, and the forwards while getting younger and faster, are still not as skilled as the elite teams players seem to be. The goalies are better but the dump and chase is alive and well.
This team still isn't capable of a cup. It's 46 yrs and counting. Disgrace.

That might not be enough this season and thats the issue
- Tfaehner

In a 56 game season, probably not. Dig yourself too big of a hole early it's going to be next to impossible to crawl out of.

this season was set up as boom or bust for all, especially when you add in expansion coming. Just a little crazy.

Nobody. He practiced on the side with myers coots. If you want me to be honest it seemed like the flyers wanting to limit contact to only necessary contact (games)
- Tfaehner

From what I’ve seen, it seems as though the Flyers have adopted the “limit contact” for every player, for every game. “Necessary contact” in a Flyers uniform these days appears to be limited to swigging water out of Gatorade bottles.

The premeditated fights are done but I agree having guys willing to do it and stand up for their team mates....I agree skill is always going to be king, but having guys to help create space for the skill guys has always and will always be needed. I’ve said that this team is deep...they have pieces....I just don’t think they have the right pieces to solve the puzzle.

Bill, what was Allison’s injury status?

How many of those radio and national commentators watch all the Flyers games and are intimately involved in the day to day with the team? I bet not many if any at all. I think they just spew what the conventional "wisdom" was when the season started, which was "the Flyers have a nice mix of veterans and young players, they are getting Lindblom back from cancer, and don't forget he was their leading scorer last year before he got diagnosed, and they finally have a great goalie in Carter Hart".
- jd250

I think part of that is definitely true. Here is the question though. Are the Flyers as a team just not capable? Are the players they have not capable and the team is full of holes. Or are they underachieving? I think it's the latter. That's the discussion I'm trying to push.

It’s infuriating. I pray Ghost can come back and be a contributor, I’m not expecting the guy that had 60 points but move the puck, add some offense, and don’t stick out defensively. The forwards are under achieving but the defense (with any injury to Meyers/Provy/Sanheim) immediately becomes a huge problem. We just don’t have the depth on the back end.

Lower body injury in camp (believed to be foot or ankle), still on injured non-roster.

And we started the season down a starter in ghost. Or at least a roster d man. So that didn’t help either. Friedman wouldn’t have player at all. But agree. With nisky gone those three play a lot of minutes. Not a ghost fan but glad he is gonna be back. They said game time decision. Don’t see what is to decide if he is healthy

If you think retaining Pitlick, Grant and Thompson would change this around, you're nuts. Pitlick was a good 4th liner who provided some energy, but that’s about it.
- Legionofwhom

Pitlick did more than that. Had an underrated shot and was hard to take off the puck. Not saying the Flyers should have overpaid to keep him but he was an effective player in several regards .

Need to get Couturier and Myers back. See if Gostisbehere can help. I believe the team will get it together because I have faith in Vigneault. The issue is if you get too far into a hole, you could be playing like the best team in the league down the stretch and not make the playoffs in a shortened season.

Really hurt the Flyers missing on him and Labarge, if either one was contributing like expected we would be a little deeper with a big body. Hope one or both figure it out

Agree and this team needs to find and play with an edge. The casual game really is infuriating.

Think we could get lucky enough to win the lottery ? Everyone else in our division gets that type of luck. Grab Power and our defense is complete. 🤣🤣🤣 kidding for the sky is falling crew except I really do love power the next ekblad pick.

I really hope you are right, because otherwise this entire rebuild through the draft has been a failure, and I don't want that to be the case. I see what you see, the systemic problems like players on the wrong side of the puck, coasting back and getting beat to pucks, not competing enough to consistently win 1 on 1 battles, etc. and I wonder, does this team have enough talent to overcome systemic mistakes and off nights? Talent hides a multitude of sins and so far what I have seen is if this team does not come out and play close to a perfect system game, they don't have the talent to overcome the mistakes and win the game. This is my biggest fear. Again I hope you are right.

The other thing that really bothers me is the entire team (except Hart) quit in the 3rd period the other night and as a result I have over 20 voice messages from my many stupid Bruin loving friends all humming the Bruins goal song "da da da da dum" ... its annoying!!

You know come to think of it, the Flyers have really had bad luck with some of their draft picks, these two plus Patrick, Lindblom and Morin ... it's a lot of overcome.

I agree, I liked Pitlick, but the other two I was fine with not resigning.
