Kessel's $1.2 Million for this year and next cost us to lose Dell. Got to get a mil or 2 for breathing room next year. |

This one wasnt so much about cap space as it was roster room... he would have had to clear waivers regardless of cap space because the leafs can only carry 2 goalies on the NHL roster still.
The bigger question for me was what the hell was wrong with Andersen that night where he wasn’t even able to sit on the end of the bench as the backup? |

So keep in mind I'm not dealing with the specifics of the Leafs, but rather a general 3-goalie thingy:
There have been plenty of writers who have suggested that if you want to give your starting goalie a mental break, not dressing him is better than sitting him on the bench, because he can totally check out (mentally). |

Only sensible thing to do is bring back Phil with a Ton retained.
Dermott should get it done. |

I suppose that’s fair.
So what you’re saying is the decision to risk losing the goalie to waivers was very likely considered. Makes sense.
They probably felt that worse comes to worse Hutch is capable and better than his numbers reflect. |

They carried 3 goalies up until the Robertson injury.
They gave Andersen the night off, no point in even dossing him. |

I don’t have much of an issue with retaining...impossible for us fans to know if they could even get a deal without retaining money.
What we should point fingers at is who gave him the contract in the first place. |

No, I honestly have no idea why they did that.
I was just referring to not dressing Andersen the other night may have been to give him a mental break. |

Or, you know, maybe looking at why we gave up two firsts and a second to get him. |

He's the best mediocre backup we had.
Hutchinson is not an NHL goalie.
Woll may be something down the road, but he got murdered in the AHL last year.
So it's not a big deal until one of either Andersen or Campbell gets injured.
Oooooops. |

Looks like the leafs don’t play a back to back until feb 17 and 18.
Hopefully the leafs can ride andersen out during that time.
If andersen gets injured the leafs are effed. |
