Nice to see Nolan Patrick back and playing well. I thought he might be done with the head issues. I wish Nico Hischier was in our lineup because it's fun to see them play against each other. Admittedly irrelevant but still interesting.

See you soon!

Hey Bill, quick note on the line about Jake’s 400 points. It reads as though he has 400 total points as a Flyer which seemed low. I checked and that was his 400th assist as a Flyer.

But that line did have a 73.93 percent expected goals for at even strength, per Evolving-Hockey.

So even if the eye test says he was invisible, the line was very effective last night.

Dunn should be a no go, he is a less offensive version of Ghost/Gus with all the same pitfalls.

Did the Flyers really improve or were they playing a lower echelon opponent? Lets see how it goes on Thursday. If the Devils get better puck luck, it may be a very different outcome.

Also helps who they’re playing. A young team coached by Ruff, whose teams lack structure and have weak forechecking is Tailor made for ghost
- Just5

That's not accurate. Ruff is a very good coach and it has nothing to do with structure. They lack overall talent.

I think the marginal improvement was largely related to the competition they faced last night. Ghost makes them better, but this team is not playing well besides the pp and goaltending
- Just5

The Flyers were much better in a number of areas, especially through the neutral zone. Still a number of issues to clean up in attention to detail but a step forward.

My impression was that jd was exaggerating. I got that impression because he literally said he was exaggerating right after he called the game a poop show. What are you guys arguing about?

Overall I liked that line and I thought Patrick played an overall strong game, I just want Patrick to take more initiative offensively instead always looking to pass; grab the puck and make a play. For example, on the 3rd Flyers goal Patrick had the puck in the right slot and looked to pass it to G instead of shooting. The pass failed but G got the puck back and made a slick pass to Patrick in the left slot and Patrick to his credit one timed it home. So it worked out because of G's great 2nd effort to retrieve the puck, but I still would have preferred Patrick take more initiative and try to score himself when you are that close. He has a great shot and is strong on the puck, hopefully he can stay with G and gain confidence, I really want this kid to suceed!

No, I just like to comment on things I don't watch. BTW I watched the highlights of the goals scored this morning and noticed that 4th Flyers goal last night was a great example of when the 2-1-2 forecheck works, so there you go, improvement!

Patrick made the right play there. If the pass was successful, it would've been a slam dunk for Giroux into an open net. Shooting is never a bad play but in that case he made the right read in my opinion.

What were the issues on the first two Devils goals for the Flyers?

If Ghost is playing well and Myers is back where does Gus fit?
- Dkos

It looks like his ass fits in fine on that bench. Maybe a cushy seat up on the booth would be even for fitting for him

Thats what an offensive player does though. They will take chances and have turnovers. His ex GF was 76.75 at 5 vs 5 and he was +2 at 5 on 5. He played 22 minutes on the top pairing. And provy felt so comfortable with him that he was more offensive and getting up ice more. If he plays this way consistently for a season he's a really solid addition to the lineup. Not without flaws. But solid
- Tfaehner

the NHL with the speed and talent every D will look bad at some point during the game. I think Ghost was solid, if he can get a little better we actually have a decent D man to go with Provy and Sanheim. Hagg and Braun are a real issue, either they can't find the puck or they are making blind passes. I hope they can get back to where they were last season. Friedman being rookie is going to make mistakes but with the quality of the other D he cant afford to. What needs to stop is the outlet passes that create immediate rushes the other way, either home run passes or passes from blue line to blue line, the Devils counter attacked off of those passes on the regular last night, it has been a problem this season. Still time to get everyone playing better. They need to put on a clinic Thursday, build on that for the upcoming games against the top end of the division. Then Pens played Boston tight last night, initially I thought that really made the Flyers look bad but lets see how the Pens play in game 2. Boston gets away with so many picks you would think they were the Celtics.

I think Ghost is a good option short term. I don’t believe he’s gonna save this defense. I expect to be a Ghost, which is inconsistent. An offensive Juggernaut that drives offense from the blue line one night, a defensive liability the next.

What were the issues on the first two Devils goals for the Flyers?
- MJL

On the first goal, I though Provorov just made a bad play by trying to interfere with the Devil's forward versus just beating him back to the puck. He then compounded that error by not playing to the whistle when he realized he had committed a penalty! On the second goal, I though Sanheim and Friedman just gave up the blue line way to easy and let the Devils walk in, set up and shoot. I would have like to see them challenge that play a lot more than they did, though there also was very little back pressure on that play by the Flyers forwards.

It's going to take time for Lindblom to get back to where he was. Gostisbehere was more than just okay. He handled and moved the puck well. Broke up plays. Got the puck to the net from the point. He was very good for a player playing his first game coming off of Covid. He had a few hiccups but recovered to make up for it. He made a difference out there.
- MJL

I think some don't notice the little plays where he makes a pass to break out or anticipates passes to stop plays. He made at least 2 passes from around their net that I am pretty our other D can't or won't try. I think he will have his down games but as long as last night is the baseline you ride and die with him and Provy, give them room to gel, leaving Myers with Sanheim.

Let Ghost play and side bar keep putting JVR in a position to do what he does best.
