Kessel was a much better player than Willie Nylander will ever be.
People forget quickly how good of a player he was for the Leafs - basically on his own (with some help from Grabovski, Kulemin, teh Bozek and a few others, but still) he kept Leafs in lots of games during those bad years.

- MaximusAurelius

Why did we want to be kept in a lot of games during those bad years?

Nobody argues that Kessel was a bad player.

It's that they shouldn't have traded for him when the Leafs had so little talent - and even less when they surrendered 2 1sts and a 2nd to get him.

He set back the Leafs' rebuilding by at least 5 years.

Burkey wanted to build the Leafs around Kessel and Phaneuf. 2 very good complimentary players. But not Franchise players. Burkey's fast tracking and poor drafting (American player bias) killed the Leafs. His inability to improve the goaltending didn't help either.

I think a bunch of traders just secretly get together on a Reddit board and decided to push this penny stock. The market is a (frank)ed up place.

He should never have pulled the trigger on a Kessel trade.

The bolded is especially true considering the assets he gave up while trying to do so.

Leafs simply drafted Nylander (Looks like a solid pick). Leafs gave up a #1 C and #1D in lottery picks for Kessel. That's the massive difference.
And the GM who did that thinks Dubas is so wrong not to dump Nylander first chance he gets.
This isn't about knocking Kesel. it's about the absurdity of the trade and the views of the GM who did it.

Nylander for The Museum Man would have been a great trade.

I was listening live when Shannon said that and was like "WTF?". I knew it would be quoted. It was so strange.

Freddy the goat is more of a down-home puzzle guy. He likes the simple things in life, like puzzles.

Hamilton is more of a complicated cerebral guy. He's the kind of guy that blazes down the wing with the puck while contemplating the impact of the industrial revolution on european arts movements.

Ok

Nylander for Hamilton and we’d have won a round by now is my guess.

I've sadly come to the conclusion that everyone in that era might have been juicing in some way.

Obviously there's no proof against ehse guys, but it's hard not to consider it a possibility.

- Scabeh

If that's the case then there should be no issues electing these guys to the Hall.

If everyone else was juicing and you were dominating, you should get a pass.

Turns out that Tkurtle's an easy nut to crack too. Pretty amusing spaz out there. It will make some year end lists.

Every Flames explanation on Tkchucks meltdown

"Didn't someone on the Leafs do something much worse not long ago?"

Its like they have a trigger response to continuously defend Tkchuck
