Thats also a good point - the idea that you and Don are making is perfectly valid - Use Boesers scoring value for better D. But is EP, Miller, Horvat, HOG & Pod enough to replace what we lose in Brock? We really don't have any other guys coming in that are capable of scoring like Brock. Then I guess it comes down to HOW you wanna win games- 1-0 or 5-4 - Brooks_Light
That would need to be replaced for sure. I would ask would I prefer a player of Taylor Hall quality or Brock for 8 mil ? I threw out Hall's name but really it could be someone else.
It may come back to re-signing Brock but it is something to look at at the end of the year. Keep in mind also trading Brock for a high end prospect or first round pick plus the replacement player (Hall) adds to the decision . |

Just make sure you come in here and rejoice when we beat that crap team again tonight. - VanHockeyGuy
I'll be happy when they stop making huge mistakes that costs them games. |

I like Boeser at 6 mil where he is now but truthfully don't know how I feel about him at 8 mil. - VANTEL
He'll only be 25 when his next contract kicks in so realistically if it was 6-7 years long - you'd be getting him in his prime-ish years. I look at it like the Scheifele deal where he landed 6.1X8 coming off a 60 point 30 goal season (5 years ago.) He was 24 when he signed it and then really came into his own immediately following. IMO if Boeser makes 8 mil per year on his next contract that's totally fair - IF he's putting up 25-30 goals - 65-80 points a year - which he's perfectly capable of doing. Its the Jeff Skinner-ish ones you don't wanna be signing. |

Thats the thing - Boeser isn't that replaceable - from his draft class (which is a fairly decent sample size at this point) only McD and Connor have a higher goals per game % - Brock is tied with Eichel & Aho - AND AHEAD of guys like Rantanen, Konecny, Marner & Barzal - (I know some of these guys have different styles/games) but my point is just look at the company he's in.
He had 29 goals in his rookie year and has dealt with the back, wrist and rib injuries since - This is the first time since then he's been healthy. Toffoli has ecplised Brocks best once - if you can't see the upside/ceiling in Boeser/Toffoli comparison there's no point in going further in this chat. - Brooks_Light
Wtf are you even saying dude 🤦🏻♂️
At no point did I say I’d prefer Toffoli to Boeser. I simply said Boeser is a valuable trade chip to address our D issues |

Think of it like the Van MTL series.
Van is now MTL and Ottawa is Van. Except.
Ottawa is scoring 1 goal a game and not 3. Ottawa isn't making as many massive errors Van was making vs MTL.
Cut out the errors Van made during the MTL series and they are probably the better team. |

He said as much in a recent interview. Hasn't felt this good since his back injury has fully healed. |

As I said before, add wingers in free agency. Hoglander looks legit and hopefully Pod works out |

If he is putting in 25-30 goals then end of discussion
If he is putting in 16-20 goals then I keep my options open. |

The thing that still concerns me is last nights first period. They need to get rid of that.

Absolutely! Seems like one of those guys that perhaps has value on the market that exceeds his play. That rarely happens for the Canucks |

You said "How much better is Boeser than Toffoli? Could have had him for free. And at a lower salary."
And At no point did I say you did prefer one to the other - I looked at who Boeser should be compared to and gave reasons why he was/is a much better choice than Toffoli. |

He is more valuable because he is younger, hence the trade value. Subbing in Toffoli and a young top 4 D and subtracting Boeser and we are a better team |

I've always been more quality than quantity. Better teams might put in one or two more of those shots in the net. Overall 10 scoring chances in 23 shots isn't all that good. |

JB, like most GMs, overpays in Free Agency (at every position) so its just gonna lead to more problems.
Realistically, who is a young defender that you would want for Boeser? And who's a potential upcoming FA winger you could sign next year to replace the loss of scoring? |

And Brandon Sutter has looked like 2020 Petey out there this year, while Petey has looked like 2020 Sutter.
If this is Motte's coming out party, all for it. I just don't think bumping Pearson when they've won two in a row with a balanced attack is the best plan. - NewYorkNuck
They all count, but the second Motte goal wasn’t exactly a snipe, or even a hard working digger goal. Muffin shot by beagle hits him in the shin, hits the goalie, hits a defender and bobbles into the net. Sure, he went to the net, but let’s not pencil him in as the answer to “who’s the top 6 winger we’ve been missing”... |

Boeser > Toffoli
aside from feasting on a Canucks team that was playing like sh!t, he hasn't been especially effective this year. The only way trading Boeser and having Toffoli instead improves us, is if you are getting someone like Ekblad back in the deal, and that is only happening if we add to Boeser and also pay to dump Eriksson. |

There was some good quality chances given up last night . The disappointment for me this season is who is giving up the chances. I see Edler Hughes Hamonic Myers Petey and Miller giving up a lot of careless chances.

Perhaps more noteworthy: Virtanen + Gaudette were among 10 players/taxi squad that also skated, but Gaudette was off early + Virtanen stays for a hard group skate late so could be healthy scratch. Jayce Hawryluk, injured in training camp scrimmage, also skated this am |

Any other changes? Gaudette going off early... he is ....... being traded! TRADER JIM!
After the last two games, B squad could get some reps. |
