People have strong views on it. I think people know where I stand. I like him. He brings emotion. I think its a mistake, but I can't change it. Now if I had won the megamillions a couple weeks ago I might have bought the Rangers and this would be a lot different.

Ya has nothing to do with Deangelo playing with Smith and JJ and Fox getting Lindgren. This isn’t an attack on Fox, the kid is great, but Deangelo wasn’t as bad defensively as people made him out to be.

So if Deangelo was paired with Lindgren he wouldn’t have been better? And Fox paired with JJ?

Until Fox has a 53 pt season people can compare whatever they want
- nyrangers9479

People keep going on about his 53 point season...
I could give 2 poops.
Yes, ADA had a great season... offensively. Meanwhile he was still a defensive tire fire.
Adam Fox is the ALL-AROUND real deal.
While ADA put up 53 points Fox, as a ROOKIE, scored 42. Also had about the same number of turnovers, but 4 times as many takeaways. As well as nearly twice as many blocks.
ADA's Corsi For: 48.6 and Rel. CF: 3.0
Fox: Corsi For: 51.8 and Rel. CF: 7.5

ADA was a bad teammate and a defensive liability. We are just plain better off. My only wish was that we could've gotten something for him. Period.

Took Tony 4 years to do that. You do realize Fox had 42 last year.

Well to be factually correct only Fox had better fancy stats last year then Tony. The whole defensive liability is really a myth that just has grown. That will be the last thing I say.

so what's the explanation that no team in the league wanted Tony D for absolutely free yesterday?

What’s done is done with Deangelo, but getting nothing but maybe a bad contract back in exchange for a 53 point defenseman is terrible. Gorton has gotten lucky winning the lottery 2x, but the way the organization has ended dealings with some players isn’t something I can remember in recent memory. It happens, but there are now multiple occasions of guys just absolutely being done with the NYR and the NYR being done with them. Lias and TonyD, plus last year Kravtsov was unhappy with how he was being handled. Not the best look.

No because Lindgren cant cover the whole ice, Yes Fox would make JJ look palletable but he cant play for JJ.

Couldn’t afford his 4.8 million cap hit, only 4 teams had the cap room to do it. Devils Wings Sens Kings

Whatever metrics you see on ADA are because the coaches did everything they could to put him in a position to not get exposed at even strength.

I don't think I agree.
How many times did we see an odd-man rush coming down the ice with DeAngelo skating like mad to get back?
Despite being one of the best skaters on the ice, he was perpetually out of position. Playing with someone like Lindgren should in theory make up for some of that. Or, does it encourage the offensive minded to take MORE chances?
Thankfully, we'll never have to find out.

It would’ve covered some mistakes. Bottom line is he was on pace for a 64 point full season as a 3rd pair dman. His defense wasn’t nearly as bad as some are making it out to be consistently playing with our worst dman.
