Well, the question is whats financially better for the team. Bury him on the taxi squad and buy out or trade and retain half.
- aecliptic

If I understand correctly,
He'll cost us about $3.7M in the minors, $2.4 to retain 50% and trade, or $1.6 to buy out.

Well, there's still a good chance they don't agree on a trade and wind up buying him out, anyway. What's the trade-off between 50% retained and the buyout? I can't do the math.

buyout is only a 383K cap hit in 2021-22

I don
- jimbro83[t care about retaining half for this season, but 2.4 mil in dead space next year sucks

$9M in dead cap space freed up next year, though. While not ideal, it shouldn't be a backbreaker.

Half the hit spread over twice as long, right?

Someone was saying a buyout for Deangelo is 1/3, as opposed to 2/3 for an older vet. I think RFA/age has something to do with it

Really? So, apparently I don't understand it!
Thought it was 1/3 of contract for a player under 26 years old. How is it only ~10%?

Adam Fox is awesome, stole him from Carolina, Anthony DeAngelo is pretty damn good too, elite offensive skills every team would want, cap situation and the future of the cap with revenue being what it is kept him from being claimed, bottom line is 1 great defenseman is good but we need to put 5 more in the lineup, DeAngelo is much better than JJ, Smith and Bitetto, haven’t seen anything about being a bad teammate, if he was JD wouldn’t have bothered addressing the lies written by Rangers CNN(Hermann and Fat Joe)

they apparently were very pissed about the attitude Tony had about the 2 healthy scratches and considered the fight a last straw

I’d do Deangelo and a 3rd rd pick for Dunn. Stl/Berube certainly wouldn’t put with his bs. They have oodles of vets and experience there. May not be enough tho. Dunn would be a very nice 3rd pair guy

???
If he wasn't they wouldn't be getting rid of him.
Maybe he wasn't involved in the BS that Twitter generated. But, annoying your coach, GM and President for a prolonged period because you don't agree with being sat for your mistakes also falls under the heading of "bad teammate," IMO.
He was a distraction and was seen as preventing this squad from coming together the way they need to. End of story.

I would love to know what he did during that time but it doesn’t matter now, just get Lundkvist and Kravstov over here before the end of the season, we’re full of prospects, get them in the lineup, Rooney, PDG, aren’t the future

And let's be honest, Tony wasn't sat for 2 games because of his misconduct penalty. He was sat for one game, which is fair. And then, he sat because every guy in the line up deserved to play the next game, due to their efforts.
The difference might be semantic, but it is recognizable.

Also sooner than later we need to address Gorton’s job as GM, on paper it looks amazing but there are some trades that have been duds, Graves to start, Stephan and Mcdonagh trades are complete busts, only thing I can say about those trades is at least we aren’t paying big money to aging players, he gets zero credit for Kakko and Laf, no GM should get credit for winning a lottery

I would’ve been to, he got sat for 2 games bc he slammed the penalty box door. If that’s anyone else showing that emotion it’s great, it’s what we’re missing, we need more of it etc. but bc it was Deangelo he got benched for 2 games. They had it out for him and he lost, that’s what it comes down to.

Speaking of the future, does anyone have a link to the hit Kravstov took yesterday? I haven't been able to find anything.

I would call the Stepan trade a complete wash

The McDonagh trade they got killed, but he absolutely kicked ass on the Nash and Brassard trades

That is bullpoop speculation.
He couldn't project the attitude of a professional. No one should get a pass for thinking they are more important than their teammates.

Lets not bash Rooney and PDG, they are the type of guys that winning teams have.

What bothers me is all the talk DeAngelo being a terrible person, being nothing but trouble is he really though? No drugs, alcohol or police issues, I feel like things are getting really soft when we’re considering Tony DeAngelo as “trouble”
