Yep. If only we could renegotiate that contract for a few million less. He's a good 2nd pairing guy, which is what he will be here. Unfortunately, he's not paid that way.

He hasnt had a consistent partner since hes got here. Lets hope that Miller being a mainstay on his left side he will stop trying to do everything and simplify his game.

Conflicting reports that Sam Bennet has asked for a trade. I know his numbers aren't great but this team needs some center depth.

Also, let's not conveniently forget that Gorton is responsible for trading for Fox, got Strome for Spooner, got a prospect and 2 picks for Adam McQuaid, Darren Raddysh for Peter Holland, 5 assets (4 of which we still control) for Miller and McDonough (who we didn't want to pay) and pulled the trigger on trading up to select Miller and Schneider.
I accept that he is human and will not win every trade. I also feel good about where we are overall and that is largely due to these moves and more.

- Tonybere

Fox said he would only play for NYR.....not sure how much credit I give there.
McQuaid we traded a 4th and 7th to get, when we traded him away we got.....you guessed it, a 4th and 7th back.
Raddysh is a career AHLer. Not sure why your bringing that up.
The Miller and McDonagh trade we got crushed on, no way can anyone say we got even close to fair value.
Credit for moving up to grab Miller, we’ll wait and see what Schneider looks like but so far I’ve liked what I’ve seen.

#NYR prospect Lauri Pajuniemi has registered two goals thus far in his game today with TPS (Liiga). He has recorded 35 goals in 70 games in Liiga since the start of last season, which is the most in the league over the span.

Another winger in the pipeline

I wanted Bennet for the past few years. Maybe a TonyD for Bennet swap

We already have a more productive version of him in Strome. Not sure where he would fit in

Yea I don't love it either but the last 3 years prior to this he was 51-55% on faceoffs. I feel like we need to keep all options open right now

His contract is up this year and he's cheap. I wouldn't mind it except he doesn't appear to be much of a C at this point.

Yes, Fox said that. So, Gorton could have decided to wait and get him one season later as an FA. Instead, we got our next 1D onboard sooner and with him feeling he was coveted.
We got a 4th, 7th and a prospect for McQuaid. So, an improvement.
I bring up Raddysh because, while you label him a career AHLer, he is 24 years old and we got him for a guy who is now retired.
I totally disagree with you about the Miller/Mack trade, for a couple of reasons.
1st, Mack was being moved, end of story. They weren't going to pay him what his market value was going to be. And Miller was NEVER the player he is now when he was here. He never even showed a glimpse of it. He was a mid-level forward. And for that they got 5 picks and top end prospects. That is a decent return for any GM. Again, without a crystal ball, at the time the trade was legitimate, not some fleecing.

I mean, we can talk about Miller if you want but there were plenty of people, myself included that felt Miller was a PPG player and AV just hated him. I feel AV’s feelings towards Miller are Quinn’s feelings towards Deangelo. They missed on the Miller/McD trade, no other way to put it

If you really want to galaxy brain it you could argue without any of these trades we wouldnt have ended up with Kakko and Laf

3C. When Chytil is healthy let him take the 2C, he looked ready for it. If Strome has to move to wing or be traded it is what it is. Bennett is buried on the 4th line bc of the depth they have at center.

I'm not saying Miller is no good. Far from it. I liked him as a Ranger.
But, the last 3 seasons he was here he was very durable and didn't miss a game. While putting up less than 60 points. That is a LONG WAY from a ppg player. Not even in the ballpark.
There is no evidence to say he would've picked up by 0.25ppg with a different coach, only speculation.
Why I felt it was ok to move on from JT was that in his last playoffs with us, he seemed to curl away from the difficult areas every time he carried the puck.
And, as I said, getting 5 shots back at getting a better player is, I think, good work for any GM.

this is what JT Miller recently said when asked about AV:

"Me and him on paper have a rocky history, but he’s a big reason I’ve become the player I am now... I was a young kid who didn’t have my crap together when I was 20. He helped me with that.”

Given the microscopically small chance we had of getting either, let alone BOTH, i doubt that

He was top 5 on the team in points 3 years in a row playing on the 3rd line ..... he finished 5th 2nd and 1st in points on the 3rd line, AV hated him

Maybe when TonyD is playing for someone else putting up 65 points he’ll say the same about Quinn

well Tony never put up points before he played with Quinn, and he never would be making 4.8 million if Quinn didnt give him that opportunity to shine like he did last year

this is an interesting idea

I honestly don't have a specific hypothetical for this

But a Deangelo trade where NYR find a team that is also poised to buy someone out in 2021, and they swap those future buyouts. NYR get a little pot sweetener for essentially giving the trade partner a less painful buyout.

WPG fans have said it... Morrissey made Trouba look a lot better than he actually was.

Well, then ... trade for Morrissey. Gorton! Make it happen!

Maybe. Although i don't really see many parallels between the two players. JT Miller seems to just have been a somewhat stubborn kid who needed tough love to reach his potential. Tony D has been a problem everywhere he's been and has been given countless chances. Not sure another kick in the ass will change anything especially given the circumstances that led to him being waived

the only similarity between JT Miller and Tony DeAngelo is that he absolutely loves both of them
