Ouch
Time for a new GM, spend some assets to move some players, and have a great reset next season.
Buyout Beagle.
LE + 2nd to whoever.
Myers + prospect to Seattle.
Package Jake for a D from another team needing to offload for expansion. - NewYorkNuck
Why buyout Beagle? That would cost the team 275K in cap space vs demotion
What would the Canucks do with 37M in cap space?

Food bank.
For those not familiar how easy it is to donate to food bank, at every Safeway cashier there is a 2 dollar donation card with a bar code attached to a coiled plastic string . You say to the cashier can you scan that also and a two dollar donation is automatically made. We usually go to Safeway three times a week and it was an easy habit to get use to. |

Whatever, demote him then! Just clear that space.
And with that cap space, the new GM could sign players, or trade for a player a team doesn't want to lose to Seattle for nothing... possibilities |

It is funny how many people in here before free agency were set against signing Toffoli for four years. |

Buying him out only saves 800,000, then the replacement cost for him is at league minimum, 750,000. Sending him to minors, saves 1.075 million, plus the 750,000 league minimum replacement, makes for a whopping 325,000 savings, not sure you can sign another player for that amount.
Besides, the problems with the Canucks run far deeper than the bottom 6 and the amount they are paid. |

I think Toffoli is having a fantastic time against Canucks. I like the guy but am also glad he didn't sign here four years. This is a very unusual year .
In most years Toffoli is an above average player which is a good signing at 4.5 . I think play this year out and when things hopefully go back to normal and contracts expire then you make your move. It could be a real sh1tty year or they could get back on track. |

Yes that is exactly what this is, it's a biased view on a situation, your take, your interpretation, your skewed perception of a situation you have minimal outside information on, and absolutely no inside information on.
And it has no reason to be in the main blog...anyone wanting to talk politics, here

Yup, I still don’t want him. The Lui+Jake and Toffoli situations are mutually exclusive. |

By not resigning TT what has been the damage to team moral? It seems that players are unhappy with management. So much so they’ve spoken out to the media about it. Many, many people in here talk about building a winning environment. Looks like the players don’t feel coaches and management are doing their part and it’s effecting their play. |

I don't know about the team moral but if they are so fragile that a guy that played 25 games is going to be the bottom line of them quitting then See YA.

I would've signed Toffoli for the contract he got. Would it be a steal? Probably not, but for a team that stomachs $3 million for Roussel or Beagle, I could handle $4m for 40-50 points. Without him, there just really isn't any depth and I imagine that has something to do with the struggles this year |

Yes, compared to at least 3 contacts, Toffoli should have been signed.
Fire Benning, hire Gillis |

I think it has had an effect. Part of the sell of bringing him in last year was that Benning was sending the core a message that they played hard and he'd bring in reinforcements for the playoff push, and now the following season they are arguably worse off but certainly no better |

I wonder who’s fault it is accumulating such a large group of fragile-minded players? I mean, a player’s character needs to be considered when drafting, signing, or trading for. Yes? |

Yup. I think I have stated in the past that, I wasn't expecting great results this messed up season, but I sure didn't expect them to look this bad.
I am a bit concerned that Benning, if still here will end up overpaying the 3 RFA's coming up, putting them back into being cap restricted and not being able to acquire a solid defenseman.
The only free- agent player that I was hoping the team would be able to get was Edmundson and my hopes were shattered when Montreal trad we d a 5th round pick for his rights.
Those are the types of defensemen this team desperately needs,notthewoop-woop type they acquired.
Having Hughes, a player this team desperately is enough of the shining, now the team needs more Edler types. |

A soft team of pouters. Miller is a prime example. |

Canucks were 9 th in league scoring last year Toffoli played 10 regular season games and contributed 6 goals .
Other than them not signing Leivo (who has been demoted to fourth line in Calgary with zero goals ) the team forwards are the same.
Miller is playing with his same line mates that he played with most of the year.
Miller has one more goal this year than Roussel and Beagle. |

Let's not forget about the kid who had to pick up his lower lip off the ice, a few games back.
They were a bubble team last season, played well, for a 20 game stretch in the thingy and the players had false hopes on how good the team actually is/not. |

You're 100% correct, the Canucks have scored, to date, 45 GF which is #1 in the NHL. Sure a bunch of them came against Ottawa but they're not having trouble scoring, sans the first three games.
Toffoli would make little to no difference in the win / lose department. Its the 48 goals against, worst in the league, that's killing them.
If the players are pouting because Benning didn't re-sign him, they can (frank) off because there's no crying in the National Hockey League! |
