Yup. I think I have stated in the past that, I wasn't expecting great results this messed up season, but I sure didn't expect them to look this bad.
I am a bit concerned that Benning, if still here will end up overpaying the 3 RFA's coming up, putting them back into being cap restricted and not being able to acquire a solid defenseman.
The only free- agent player that I was hoping the team would be able to get was Edmundson and my hopes were shattered when Montreal trad we d a 5th round pick for his rights.
Those are the types of defensemen this team desperately needs,notthewoop-woop type they acquired.
Having Hughes, a player this team desperately is enough of the shining, now the team needs more Edler types.

I believe they are better suited this year to make moves. As painful as it is to watch right now it will get better. I don't want to see these four year deals or longer signed with UFAs. We are developing most of our young players .

As far as Hughes and Petey , I hope this is a good tell for Benning that they are not valued at seven mil plus players. IF he or whom ever is GM gets them in at reasonable numbers they could fill a lot of holes this year with short term players.

You're 100% correct, the Canucks have scored, to date, 45 GF which is #1 in the NHL. Sure a bunch of them came against Ottawa but they're not having trouble scoring, sans the first three games.

Toffoli would make little to no difference in the win / lose department. Its the 48 goals against, worst in the league, that's killing them.

If the players are pouting because Benning didn't re-sign him, they can (frank) off because there's no crying in the National Hockey League!

This and this.

BTW, how did your Flyers do last night?

Canucks were 9 th in league scoring last year Toffoli played 10 regular season games and contributed 6 goals .

Other than them not signing Leivo (who has been demoted to fourth line in Calgary with zero goals ) the team forwards are the same.

Miller is playing with his same line mates that he played with most of the year.

Miller has one more goal this year than Roussel and Beagle.

Same group won't mean same results. I think effort has them underachieving a bit, but they also have a longer book for opponents to scout up on. I also realize too, the offensive generally hasn't been horrible, its the powerplay that's been awful and where Toffoli could have helped.

The second unit is currently rolling out Pearson-MacEwen-Gaudette-Hoglander-Schmidt is laughably bad. And eliminates many options for shaking up PP1

They really should look at some of the young guys. Again it is painful to watch right now but I think this is a year to look and see what you have.

Chatfield has been a pleasant surprise and I think his partner from last year Briesbois is worth looking at this year also. He plays a stay at home style , he is 6'3 and can play a little rough if it is called upon.

Shut your dirty pie hole, devastating lose.....Bruins tied it with 14 seconds left on a dumb penalty and then won it in OT, on another dumb penalty

I believe Miller is crying because he is getting paid millions of dollars to play a game he loves while being away from his family.

I think he's having trouble being away from his family too, he's playing like he doesn't really want to and he's only there because of the money.

In all honesty, I believe he is frustrated playing with Pouty, who blows defensive coverages, regularly, and Hughes skating the puck into trouble, before making a pass, which ends up putting Miller in a bad spot.

If they aren't committed tonight, the Leafs will eat them alive with their firepower. I'm afraid to watch, could be painful

He's as guilty as they are on most nights. He turns the puck over all the time trying to be too fancy. I actually see him trying to do too much. Maybe that's because of the poor play of the other two?

They are number 1 because they've also played more than twice as many games as some teams... 11th in GF/G isn't far off the pace from last year though

It is funny how many people in here before free agency were set against signing Toffoli for four years.

That certainly plays into it, however, the next twelve teams under them in GF have all played 10 or more games and the spread is still there.

Example; Boston, Toronto, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Winnipeg have all played 10 or 11 games, yet they've scored between 30 and 35 goals. Still well behind the Canucks 45 in a three game spread.

They are, the process hasn't been good, but getting better with each game, but their coaching is so good and they're getting timely goals which is helping them collect points.

They have also played 13 games in 21 nights with 3 back/backs and two road trips. That is not close to a normal year. It is hard to say what is going on because it is a very unusual year.

You can't use the excuse of the schedule for their fails but you can't turn around and use it to take away the positives also.

I think Toffoli is having a fantastic time against Canucks. I like the guy but am also glad he didn't sign here four years. This is a very unusual year .

In most years Toffoli is an above average player which is a good signing at 4.5 . I think play this year out and when things hopefully go back to normal and contracts expire then you make your move. It could be a real sh1tty year or they could get back on track.

I didn't really want TT back but was kind of baffled after JB let Marky, Tanev and Leivo walk. With Pods and Hogs coming and Hogs emerging it didn't make a whole lot of sense to lock TT into a 4 year deal when we were winning in the PO's without him. Is what it is. He doesn't appear to be doing much vs other clubs than the Canucks lol
