It's really admirable that you donate to several causes (no sarcasm) and I've admired that you regularly donate to several causes. Good on ya for looking out for the community!

...But I would caution you away from donating like this. I know you donate directly to causes so I would say continue with that.

Why do I feel this way? Corporations collect money from their customers (like your example with Safeway) in the name of "charity." They do give the money but then collect the tax deduction.

Basically, they are collecting their customers' donations and getting the tax credit for them. Simply put, they are getting tax credits and goodwill ("Safeway donates money to the foodbank") for donating other peoples' money.

Worse is that everyone feels the need to record every interaction so that they can post it online later. I bet that woman purposefully went into that store meaning to cause a scene. Teens don’t have the experience to stay calm in anxious situations like that.
