Yeah of course we need some help up front but what makes this team successful at all is it’s defense and you have to fill holes on your roster with cheaper, younger, talent, in the salary cap era. Leddy is/was on his way out and Toews was on his way up. Trading him leaves a hole he could’ve filled when Leddy is gone. Couple that with everything I already stated kind of wished Leddy went those two second rounders be damned. Wait till we’re struggling to find or overpay for a top four D man if we are even lucky enough to find one or even worse resign Leddy - Cptmjl
Cannot argue with this. Covid I think really hurt in being able to move Leddy. |

I have to say that there were some good pro's and con's on Leddy vs Toews. I thought it was a mistakes due to his age and offensive upside. I thought him playing more minutes was a good thing.
I have to be honest I did not think of the playoffs and how Toews played. I was strickly thinking age and another 6 years of having him in blue and orange.
I understand why Lou did what he did. I just do not agree with this move. Dobson will be solid in time. Whether he is stud we hope for, that too is a time will tell.
Bottom line is that the forwards need to step up.

You can't have the Toews conversation without at least mentioning the expansion draft. You can only protect 3 D-men if you go 3/7. So one of Pelech, Pulock, Mayfield, Toews will have to be exposed to the expansion draft. Mayfield's contract makes him extremely valuable to any team and as good as Toews has played I still wouldn't move Pelech or Pulock for him.
when you factor in all mentioned AND the expansion draft they moved Toews for 2 second round picks instead of 30+ year old Leddy for a bag of pucks. If they exposed Toews in the expansion draft this summer he is gone for zero return. Leddy as his age getting 5.5 mill for a year is less likely. I am guessing they expose Leddy, boychuck, Hickey, Eberle, and Ladd in expansion draft. Schneider as goalie.
keeping the 3 d men above.. Barzal, Brock, JGP, Lee, Beau, Casey, and either Martin or Johnston.. Varly as goalie.
Eberle's NTC becomes a M-NTC this summer. That had to be on purpose. |

Who knows? I would think they could’ve moved him for something. |

Unless Lou did not want to move him for a small return? Know way of knowing. I just know I would have rather moved Leddy if possible. |

A better return is always good of course and I guess you could speculate that Lameriello wanted more assets in case he had to unload more salary. With that said the whole point of the trade was to unload salary not the return. |

Robin Salo is ready, time for Lou to bring him over!
Trade Leddy a prospect and a pick for a winger! |

These players do not seem to have a shoot first DNA though. We shall see. |

I hear you, I'd obviously have liked to see them move Leddy instead as well. But there might not have been much of a market for him. Maybe if there was no pandemic and the cap kept rising incrementally someone would have loved to add Leddy, but in a flat-cap/no revenue world I'm not sure anyone really wanted to take him on at his age and cost. - eichiefs9
This.
No one (frank)ing wanted Leddy due to his age and contract. The fact half of you are just willy-nilly comparing him to Toews like they exist in a vacuum and there isn’t an expansion draft next year shows how asinine some of you are. Sorry.
Nate Schmidt, who I’d take over Nick Leddy in a heartbeat, got traded for only a 3rd rounder. No one wanted Leddy, it’s (frank)ing obvious. |

The other thing...of course Lou would say they preferred Leddy over Toews. What was he gonna say? “You know, we tried to trade Nick, but we couldn’t even get a bag of pucks for him. Who knew a team, a contending one at that too, would want our younger and cap-friendlier defenseman who’s better anyway at this point?” |

Yeah I don’t think anyone is saying that Leddy would be as traceable as Toews? In fact in just about every, single, one of my posts I stated I would trade Leddy “if it were even an option”. Jesus, take it easy it’s something to talk about |

Hopefully this break does them good. Maybe we get Beau back and he’s ready to play. |

Rangers played a good game against the Caps and the Isles are in last place.
http://www.tankathon.com/nhl - JohnScammo
Sorry flagged by mistake 😢😢. Watched that game. They are gonna be very good really soon. Next year maybe two. Islanders
better stop signing the likes of MM and get younger really soon. Sorry 7 but the nonsense needs to stop.
So, regarding the tank, the problem with this years draft is it’s the bizzaro Islander need. Top 4 of 5 ranking are D men. 😆😆. We can’t catch a break. |
