There is something to be said when you have someone who can take the body. What purpose does Ryan Reeves play besides taking the body? Do you want to see a replay of last years playoffs when Reeves/Bellamare etc. just ran roughshod over the Hawks? You don't think that was on Stan's mind in acquiring Zadorov? He brings something that the Hawks do not have, a big nasty. Better than watching Shaw be the one sticking up for his team, or for that matter Toews like he had to do against Vegas last year. - LAHawk
I have no problem with a guy who can play being physical. In fact I’d love to see two three or more on the Hawks. I have a problem with a guy who’s below average or worse player playing strictly to be physical. Right now the jury is out if Zadorov is anything more than a guy who can dish out a big hit now and then. And again no player can protect his teammate from a big hit or cheap shot, it’s impossible. |

All 3 goals scored on open side of net, hope the defense cleans this up tomorrow. - BetweenTheDots
One was a lucky bounce can't really blame Murphy for blocking the shot. Who should have been on the left side IDK? |

Great write-up Theo. I was thinking the exact same about the overtime. It was like they just wanted to play keep away until the 5 mins was up. Kane and ADB had two decent shots (one from each circle), but that was about it. As strange as it is for me to say it, Janmark has been playing the whole ice surface quite well. He's got some speed, physicality and a decent shot.
I thought Highmore came back and had a better game. They need to find some sort of better combination for the third line. - Chunk
Hopefully by 2023. |

I don't see him as below average or strictly physical. He does spend most of his time with Beaudin and Bovquist. I think he is an old school defenseman, that there is still some relevance for in this new age defenseman era.
Brayden McNabb is making himself a nice career with Vegas, and he can't hold Zadorov's jock in regards to ability. Scott Mayfield with the Islanders is a Zadorov clone.

So far with Zadorov I see a player who is out of position, ALLOT! Though he is improving. I see a guy who seems to lose track of the play in his own zone. I see a guy who overhandles the puck in his own zone and gets stripped of it. His strong points are, he can hit like a truck, he passes quite well, he has a decent shot and he’s got a pretty quick release if he chooses a wrist or snap shot.
You commented on him covering for mistakes Beaudin made but I saw on two occasions of covering up because Zadorov was completely out of position. I’d love to see someone with Zadorov’s size and physicality be a permanent player on the Hawk’s blueline but he has some work to do to earn that spot. |

That's how I see it, too. Chunk raised a good point about being new to the system and the team. So maybe there's hope for improvement. |

And I am not saying he probably will be nothing more than 3rd pairing/penalty killer, but there is a role for that on a team also. In any event, he is only signed for one year, and if the Hawks feel they can do better without him, they can just cut bait.

Let’s hope he improves at hockey so he becomes a player the hawks want and need rather than someone the team keeps to justify the trade for Saad. |

They need to win a face-off. Did they win a face-off in the third period or overtime?. I would sit Kampf next game for Johnson, who is supposed to be very good at face-offs. Kampf started the year well, but has fallen off the last few games on face-off wins. - LAHawk
Kampf won the initial face off in OT |

Zadarov should probably sit and watch to learn why he is out of position. If you can get him "right", he can be an asset on this team and set the tone of the game with his size. Just cannot have him get out of position, just to make a hit. If the hit is there, knock em on their butt ! Just like you can't have all big slow bruisers on defense, you cannot have all little puck movers that never use their body on the back end. You need BOTH |

M on the same page with you on your analysis regarding ,adorov saying un tiwn fir a while. Let us see if he is better as the season wears along. The worse case s elation istat he is left exposed to expansiin or is traded. I nominate Carlssom as permanent replacement if zadorov is not here next . season. I charted Carlsson "hits" department in the past and if he plays a regular shifts (making rooughly nor less than 18 TOI per game) then expe t torehits per game. That does not replace the intimidation, adoriv provides. But I would be satisfied with Carlson a fairly steady replacement whom dies show some physicality |

Kampf was 2 for 2 in the OT - Strome was 0 for 1
So the team was 2 out of 3 in the OT. |

Re: Defencemen posturing
I wish to see Mitchell develop into a #1 pair and Beaudin develop into #2 pair. They no doubt will make mistakes and learn while paying NHL.
Following this season i hope Beaudin and Murphy are gone. If Murphy get past expansion and is not traded, then it is only a matter of time until either he does, indeed, get dealt. For Murphy to stay next season means ONLY then trade Keith. While young kids break in through next season, I hope that Keith remains the leader on defense. He receives as much or the same TOI as any other dman. Eventually Keith retires or is traded where he can play one last season. I do not expect much renumeration for Keith At THAT TIME.
I would like for Boqvist to play in the AHL this season only remailed fir the last two NHL games. hope for Boqvist is to become either the second or third pair offensive - man (Beaudin is the other).
This leaves one spot open first pair, and one slot open on either second or third pair. I would like Kalynuk to fill an opening. Many possibilities for an additional dman but as fir Seabrook, i sugest he is depth or third pair fill in |

And who is to replace DaHaan and Murphy? Are you going with no experience whatsoever on defense?

The Bowery Boy is back on the taxi squad; Kalynuk and Teply to the Rock. I'm guessing playing time drove the decision. |

It matters less about whom is 1st/2nd pair and more about how many players we have of this ilk. If the Hawks groom 3 solid top 4 D out of the prospects they have, it will be a huge win. The issue will then become how to get them all under contract.

As long as we are wishing, I'll wish for three HOF defensemen, and 3 HOF forwards, all of whom are billionaires who are willing to play their whole careers for league minimum. |
