I thought Murphy made a nice play, i believe Strome was suppose to cover Trochek, instead he didn't, bad defense by 17
I guess with the defensive responsibilities what they are,
1st goal was on Kampf
2nd on Suter
3rd on Strome
I just don't like how our defensive structure is set up, opponents can get our defenceman away from the front of their own goalie. - BetweenTheDots
The 3rd goal was a poop happens goal. They blocked a pass and it went right back to the Canes. Murphy blocks the shot and it land right on Trochek's stick. Kinda hard to assign any blame since it happened so quick.
Zadorov getting beat wide by Staal just can't happen. Svechnikov is a beast and will beat a lot of players in that spot but Kampf probably should have played the puck there. |

Elbows you said last night that Keith was still "a top 25 defenseman in the NHL, at worst"....
So i did some digging...
Carlson
Josi
Hedman
Makar
Burns
Hamilton
Pietrangelo
Werenski
Krug
Theodore
Chabot
Dahlin
Heiskanen
Letang
Karlsson
Jones
Weber
Hughes
Giordano
Pulock
Ristolainen
Petry
McAvoy
Doughty
Klingberg
Parayko
OEL
Chychrun
Ellis
Ekblad
Trouba
Slavin
Reilly
Provorov
Toews
Schmidt
Yandle
Pionk
Smith
K. Miller
Morrissey
Pesce
.....are all guys that one might argue are currently better than Keith.
I personally don't think Keith is worse than ALL those players, but definitely most.
I think he's somewhere around 35-45 in the league.
So maybe he's still top pairing caliber....but as i said NOT for a true contender. He'd be one of the worst #1's in the league. Definitely not a top 25 defenseman "at worst". Not anymore. Too many other guys to consider. |

Risto i agree, I'd prefer Keith. But despite Hughes slow start this season you can't ignore his potential/what he did as a rookie and as of this moment I'd rather have him for now and definitely moving forward. |

Who you’d rather have moving forward is an entirely different discussion vs who’s better now.
You can add Burns and Weber, two of the most overrated D-men in history, to the not better than Keith list. |

What becomes of Seabrook. Shouldn't he be close to ready by now?
If a veteran dman is traded. Murphy is the more logical choice.
Keith can block a trade. Keith remains slotted as the team's top dman.
DeHahn has a shoulder which may not hold out until the trade deadline. His shoulder is too questionable to risk trading for, unless you are only giving a conditional draft pick based on his playing and not injured for a new team. Even a 4th round seems too much.
Zadorov isn't traded now and is not the help a team really should target. Zadorov might be lost in The Expansion Draft anyway.
I realize too much inexperience on defense is not the way to go. But maybe Chicago pushes for the inexperienced should current youngsters improve as this season unfolds. Next season is what any move is all about. Next season meaning as the Seattle roster comes into focus many names will be circulated, maybe moving to other teams. So an experienced dman should be available. Not as good as Murphy, but available if we really need to add such - Elbows15[/img] |

Hey Jhawk. Seabrook has resumed skating, but his latest injury is being reported as a back injury. He has to get over that and then prove he is in game shape. I wouldn't count on seeing him until the second half of the year. I'm sure they will get him in some games, but it likely won't be many.
Calvin de Haan's shoulder isn't a problem until it is. He came out of the bubble in tact, had a few months to rest up and has played well and held up since restarting. I'm sure teams with a need would have interest. Are you going to get much? probably not, but it won't be nothing. I would say a mid-round pick (3-4 rd). |

Hope that you are correct about Seabrook. Just a little doubt about his injuries leading up to a diagnosis of unable to perform = not have to protect in The Expansion Draft. I greatly admire what a warrior he has been, however, and would like to see him return this season as an effective cagey veteran. Might help the kids mature faster too.
Someone on the board suggested MAYBE DeHahn turnover ratio lately could be related to his shoulder bothering him a little. Knock on wood that his shoulder holds up. |

Hughes is gonna have to put up 90 points a season to overcome the mess he is in his own end.
He is getting manhandled and teams will just attack his side of the ice.
But the conditions were as of right now.
Jan Rutta and Goofy Gus are playing top pair on two teams considered contenders.
Think Keith would play over those two on a contender? |

Zadorov got beat twice wide on the shift that lead to the 1st Hurricane goal. He has trouble defending speed.
I’d like to see one of the young guys draw in to replace him. - scottak
Agreed. I’d like to see him understand this and when they go wide just check them into the boards. Stay at home d-man that should never wander north of the blue line |
