I don't want to let them off the hook but they clearly did not make calls against the Bruins. I think it was because they were down not because it was the flyers. The refs made themselves part of the game. Championship teams fight through that... - wcorvette
Its one thing to say a ref made a bad call, but its another thing to say the refs are bias or calling penalties to help out the Bruins. This isn't the NBA is it? I would hope not! Why would a ref want to help out one team? I think the more plausible explanation is the Flyers stopped playing, or as MJL said went into a preventive shell, and when you do that you stop skating allowing your opponent to attack with speed, and then the penalties come. I thought last night the Flyers looked slow again except for stretch of about 5-10 minutes in the 3rd period when they expanded their lead and were controlling the neutral zone. They certainly did not have the same jump they did on Sunday versus the Islanders and they completely cowered once the Bruins scored their 2nd goal.

I think they took stupid penalties and it cost them, that took their momentum away. The refs as I said didnt call it for the Bruins, they made calls based upon the game situation and became 1 part of the story |

The bottom line is they called the game one way for 50 minutes and then stopped doing that, that’s the issue, I don’t understand what people can’t see here. The refs set a precedent and need to stick to it, last night was embarrassing from the officiating standpoint. They need to be better. |

Agreed and it was an open question to all. The Hayes call was t he one that made me go crazy.
It also makes no sense that they let so much go until the end of the game then call everything and one way. - Hextall271
I hate to blame the refs, I really really do, but last night, with 2 minutes to go and after not calling those plays all night, how do they make a week call like that on Hayes and claim to not be biased or have the intent to change the game?! I lost my poop when I saw that penalty called. I had a bad feeling right away and sure enough my feeling was validated.
But damn you, scott laughton! I have been a HUGE fan of his for years but he really pissed me off with that call. It looked embellished but regardless, a penalty is a penalty.
After seeing him continue to take reckless and game costly penalties I would understand if AV sends him a message and he rides pine. I would HATE to have him miss a game but I also hate to see him take dumb penalties time and time again
Sorry for the rent but damnit man... We had that game and those 2 points 😡 |

100% the timing is what bothers me. Call a damn consistent game and don’t change how you want to call the game with 2 minutes left. Just absurd.
2 penalties over 50 minutes. Then 4 in the last 6-10 mins. That should say enough. - arichardson22

Lindblom had a few chances last night and didn't bury them. So did TK for that matter. Its been a problem on this team. On the plus side Farabee looks like he has a shot and is not afraid to use it. He is someone I would try to get more PP or o-zone time. - jd250
Scoring goals has not been the issue for this team. They are a top 10 scoring team in the NHL. That's the biggest reason why they've been winning. Keeping the puck out of the net is the issue.
Are you now off the fence on Farabee? |

saw this rumor:
According to George Richards of Florida Hockey Now, a possible deal involving Gostisbehere and Yandle was on the table but Yandle simply refused to waive his no movement clause. - arichardson22
Thank the sweet Lord baby Jesus!! No way in hell do I want yandle and his old overpaid ass on the payroll.
There will be better options out there than yandle |

Yea, I agree. As one poster said, they called 2 penalties in 50 minutes. In 10 minutes they called 4. It's not having a feel for the flow of the game. Call it evenly. Although not as blatant and not the same game, the Islanders and some other teams interfere on forechecker all game long and it's never called. Laughton committed a penalty, no doubt but in that situation with just seconds left, unless it takes away a legit scoring chance, swallow the whistle. Let them go to OT and let the players decide the game. |

We can’t afford the pace at which NAK is taking penalties. Some are expected, yeah.
TK might very well be scratch again if he continues as is.
I think Lindblom and Patrick are starting to turn a corner and I hope I am right on that, but I think it was expected that they would take more time. - NC Flyers Fan
Patrick in particular hasn't played in a long long time. It will take more than a dozen games for him to get back in sync and up to pace. Everyone is giving up on this kid (typically flyers fans because.. wah) but I don't expect him to get in sync until after the midway point this season... And maybe even longer.
Lindblom lost a lot of weight and has to gain core strength back. He will eventually be back in sync as well

Yep, Patrick didn't play for something like 20 months I heard in a recent interview with Chuck Fletcher. He praised Patrick's play. I think it's going to take most of this season for Lindblom to hopefully get back to where he was.

Last night I was furious at the refs. Today after some reflecting I realized it’s on the players. Everyone screams the refs need to let the players decide the game, well that’s what they were doing before one so/so call on Hayes, and a terrible penalty by Laughton. Penalties happen in real time, refs have to make a judgment call sometimes, we have the luxury of replays and can scrutinize the call.
Other thoughts:
You don’t scratch Laughton. That’s silly
Ghost got beat by Pasta, it happened. Move on. Ghost is the best choice to play with Provorov given our options. .
Myers and Sanheim keep together.
Gus can go, and definitely shouldn’t be playing over Hagg.

Exactly! Both of these young players have an immense skill level. If they both stay healthy and regain their fork and level of play there is absolutely no reason to doubt either of them. They will both be key contributors to this team for years and years to come! I don't understand why our fans are so fickle and so easy to give up on these kids unless they are on a scoring tear
If JVR can turn it around then anybody can turn it around! In 2 years when patrick is dominating we will remember these naysayers and poop talkers, won't we?
If nisky had remained a flyer I don't think we would even be having this conversation today but as usual, the fans need a whipping boy
I'm not concerned about either player at this time

Team negative has seemed almost too subdued this season to be...makes me a little nervous tbh.

Let's not carried away with JVR. We know he's notoriously streaky. I hope he can keep this up for an entire season and finally meet his career potential, but I think we're all waiting for the other shoe to drop with him. |

Speaking of myers he has looked absolutely incredible out there. He is learning to use his size now and that was my only knock on his game prior to this conversation
An unsigned player like him showing up on our doorstep is absolutely amazing to see!
The sky is the limit for this kid and luckily he is still under the radar for most teams that play us.
Myers and sanheim are a dynamic duo on defense and look at how young they both are!
Never on my life did I think I'd see a day where I am confident in our goaltending and now we have really good homegrown defenseman maturing as the days pass
It's a great time to be a flyers fan |

Myers is a good player now who has had some really good moments this season so far. The coach is giving him a bigger bite but he has also struggled. He struggled last night on the PK. It's part of the process. He's getting there but not there yet.

That's what I'm afraid of. Feels like what few pucks they manage to get on net are all going in right now. We know this team didn't suddenly all become world class shooters.

It’s definitely is!
This team is swimming with talent. They just need to learn how to keep their composure and stay calm when opponents are pressing. Niskinen was good for this. |

I'm more upset about the Laughton call. With the Hayes call, whenever as a player you stop skating and reach with your arms or a stick to impede a player, however small, you open yourself up to a call. The issue is that they let similar plays go. My issue on the Laughton call is not that it wasn't a penalty in and of itself, but at that time of the game with seconds left, unless it's taking away a clear cut scoring chance, it should be let go. Refs let clear cut penalties go right in front of them all the time in the 3rd period of tight games. You know you're giving them a 4 on 3 OT PP. Let the players decide the game. - MJL
Kuraly was about to blow by him and would have likely had a play towards the net. That’s a penalty every time.

This team is tied for the most points in the entire league despite playing less than well in the majority of their games and missing their Selke award winning center for all but 1.5 games.
If that doesn't show a talented group I don't know what does.
People need to (frank)ing relax. We all know they need to play better, and on top of that, we all know they CAN play better.
So how about we chill out a little bit and enjoy the ride. |

Well I’m hoping they round out their game and get Coots back before any slumping occurs. However, the added goals from Farabee are valid reasons for optimism that there is improvement as well. |

Should probably try to sell high on JVR. Especially if he could somehow be involved in a deal that would bring back a top 4 RH Dman. Even if that type of return is still out of the question, there's still value in getting out of having to pay him $7M per for the next two seasons after this one IMO.
When Couts gets back, move Laughton back to LW where he belongs and roll with Couts, Hayes, NoPa, & Bunnaman down the middle. |
