I'd make that trade, then just sit in Utica him until the TDL/draft and flip him. Save some money. |

I like Schmidt, he's doing okay. Maybe play him with QH? - VanHockeyGuy
Schmidt with every person is 3 out of the 4 best pairings so far this season. With Hughes though, that's his worst pairing so far.

Great idea! He’s even worse at defence than our current guys, why not?! |

Just finished watching last night's game, he is not wrong, Hughes in absolutely horrible defensively and appears to be worse when Pouty is on the ice. - Reubenkincade
The thing about those 2 is they are not expected to excel defensively, they are possession guys who avoid defense by having the puck. The team though has struggled even with simple passes.
Hughes is having a very Erik Karlsson-like start to his career, lots of points but poor defense that hopefully they can straighten out |

Agreed.
I think VHG is right, they need to sit him for a game or 2. |

I really doubt that's going to happen until you get a coach that can teach team defence a hell of a lot better.
The Canucks don't need a lot of chances to score goals. I mean they suck almost every night but are still scoring at 3.36 GP/G.
Guy Boucher could tighten that poop up real good. |

Luke Schenn had a good start with Hughes. He is currently on TB taxi squad. |

TB is another team that Canucks need to talk to at seasons end.
They have Cal Foote who will be exposed, assuming they protect Hedman, Sergachev and Cernak. What would he Cost?

Hughes on a team that can actually defend as a whole would be a whole other ball game. Sure, he wouldn't have as many points, but not by much. Not being pinned in his own end and trying to constantly break up rushes and cycles would free him up to do what he does best. |

I wonder if NJ would consider moving PK Subban?
Maybe something along the lines of:
Nucks: Subban
Devels: LE, Virtanen, Benn and a pick/prospect
or
Tyler Myers + for Subban
Subban has 2 years remaining at 9m but he cannot be any worse than what we have on D |

Problem is, this team needs at least 3 defensemen, moving forward. So if they can get one from TB or Colorado or whoever, that is a step in the right direction. |

Unless they are getting a defender 25 or under, I don't think they should be making a trade for a defenseman. This team needs to stop trying to fill in holes with aging vets, as they already have enough veterans.
Ride it out, and see what happens. |

I went and checked and they weren't very good. They were only a 46% Corsi and went 2-1 in GF-GA. expected goal was 43% |
