The Samansov hit on Chabot was probably the best, legal open ice hit i have seen in a long time. I hate that players have to answer the bell after one of those.. It was a clean hit and then he has to fight after as a reward?
- GrimmdaGoalie

Romanov hit Chabot and I find nothing wrong with it Chabot stood back up , nothing to take a penalty for, I get it’s chabot and gotta protect him but a PP goal could of changed that game 🤦‍♂️

Was it just me or was Ottawa sitting on that lead way to much last night?
- david22

Remember they didn’t sit back and protect the lead last time it was 3-0 and ended up losing 4-3 🤦‍♂️, but I agree ya still need to pressure them specifically when you have a man advantage and empty net LOL 🤦‍♂️

I’m really liking Zub game , he takes his time and has great passes , and he can check up players , can’t wait till wolanin is back so they can sit Reilly 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️, Jimmy Stu is a fking Stud..Chabot well he’s a gem , Brannstrom helped moving picks out he’s a big difference back there, Murray we need that all the time .

I honestly think the habs are a better built team than the leafs.....maybe don't have the top end forwards the leafs do, but much better depth, much better D, and much better goaltending

I think the habs will be the team to come out of this division

- sensarmy_11

I think it’s debatable.

Regular season I go with leafs. Too much fire power, and they’ve been unreal on the pp.
Not to mention Marner is possessed right now.

Playoffs could be a different story. When the offense dries up and penalties don’t get called.

At the same time, this format is the Leafs to lose..they could not be in a better situation.

Nah. Habs have been feasting on VAN and OTT, while Leafs have had a steady diet of the division’s tough(er) teams.

I do understand why you’d feel this way right now, but I don’t think anyone will be making this claim in two weeks

Price is absolutely the best goalie, but Leafs depth and defence are both superior to MTL. And the high-end talent is no contest, like you say. Matthews and Marner will be the two best players on the ice every time they meet, and that alone will be enough most nights

Those two guys are playing out of their minds right now. Barring injury, Matthews will coast to the Rocket Richard

Nice to see a bounce back performance by Murray last night for you guys!

I must admit to enjoying the Leafs serving up another playoff choke. I don't expect any changes this season. Watch for the Leafs defensive woes begin to kick in around game 32. In terms of the overall Leaf team, there is nothing new to see here, but it is fun to watch the collapse of the ice dancers over the stretch run and first round of playoffs.

to be fair, half your games have been against Cgy, Ott, and Van.....the 3 worst teams in the division....and another 4 against Edm, who aren't exactly world beaters.

Habs games against bottom 3 teams - 6
Leafs games against bottom 3 teams - 5

It was a messy win, but thats the way they would have to put a stop to losing. It wasnt going to be a picasso. Now they have something to build on ... hopefully ... and i believe likely. Its going to be a big test tomorrow.

Thumbs up: refreshing blog title.

Nice to see a win, and obviously that was a coming-out party for Stutzle. Getting the win also makes it hard to deviate from the roster decisions that played a major role in setting the team up for success. The mobility and puck-movement from the back-end was so much better, and just kept the flow going so each shift didn't turn into a defensive-zone siege. They were also getting to rebounds and clearing the puck away from the net a lot better... Murray has always been pretty good with the first shot, but needs help on rebounds and second chances. They did a good job with that last night, and the numbers speak for themselves.

A few other thoughts...
- Brannstrom was really impressive, especially given how long he's been off
- Zub is definitely one of the 3-best RHD on the roster
- Gudbranson is decent in a more limited 2nd/3rd pairing role
- Brown/Coburn basically shouldn't be playing unless there are injuries

Agree. You can tell in TS’s 11 NHL games to QB’s 0 that QB will never reach TS’s level. Anyone watching QB’s NHL games and comparing them with TS’s NHL games will see that without question.

Stu was always the most NHL ready of those 3.....let's wait a little while before making that sweeping declaration.

Like the addition of Zub and Brannstrom. Huge makeover of the D by plugging them into line-up. Is there an explanation why these guys were not playing on opening night

Agreed 100%..I knew he is going to be the best layer from this draft, even if we'll need to wait another 2/3 years to amplify this statement....Wunderbar Timmy!

They've played Ottawa ONCE... and they LOST that game. Lol

And Matthews will "coast" to the Richard trophy? Lmfao He might win, definitely has a chance and the ability. But he's not "coasting" to anything.. except maybe another first round playoff elimination.

To be fair they faced us twice and we lost the 2nd match.

In terms of the Rocket...well the leafs are playing in a very shaky division.

Just look at the goaltending and defense from most of the teams.. it’s not hard to picture Matthews scoring a lot with those matchups.

But I agree...not coasting. Guys like Pasta, OV, Draisaitl, Mcdavid all have a shot

If they play something resembling a full season (ie. not 40 games), he’ll lead the league in goals by at least 5 over second place

Yeah, good luck with that. Coming from a guy who thought Montreal had been "feasting on Ottawa", it's pretty clear you don't pay attention to anything outside your little bubble in Leafs Nation. With McDavid and Draisaitl alive and existing in the world, Matthews isn't "coasting" to an easy Richard trophy.
