Well, when guys like Goodrow and Maroon are the goal scorers, that means you are keeping the top-six bottled up. No room for Point or Stamkos.

And now Ryan..... - HenryHockey
They're waiting an extra second too long when they get scoring chances. That's a team with no confidence. |

Second period thoughts - TB playing an interesting 4-1 forecheck. Getting the puck in deep and keep defense back can help neutralize some of the potency
Second period Summary - Detroit played a very D minded brand of hockey in the second. Did very well breaking up rushes and cycles. Occasionally there would be a rush down the ice, and some decent looks. Because of this I finally got a very good look at Tampa’s system. When Detroit would have a good look in the O zone, there were 4 lightning ready to roll in the neutral zone. Goodrow’s goal was a quick jump off the bench and join the play. TB is playing 4-1 and constantly attacking. The level of talent on the bench and in the net keep this from burning them. They have great skaters who can get back into the play. Keep an eye on the neutral zone. You’ll notice how quick they work to transition. Forwards will change while Detroit rushes to the O zone. There is always a TB forward behind the play. The only way to burn this systems is to beat the goalie multiple times. Much easier typed than done. |

Vasilevskiy has a big-ass cro-magnon forehead.
He's stopping everything he sees tonight. You're gonna need traffic, screens, rebounds to beat him.

Good close game. Vasi had to be sharp. Detroit was in it until the end.

Third period thoughts - it’s a better loss, but still a loss. The empty net was mismanaged a bit, but that’s just one side note. The best team vs the worst team from last year led to a fairly close competition. A good possible step forward.
Third period summary - except for an empty net goal, this was a 1 goal game. Detroit had 28 shots on net, and only one went in. Greiss stopped 28 of 30, still outstanding. There’s more talent on one side of the ice, and immensely so. That said, there were some very impressive looks. Zadina is really a shot in the arm to this Detroit team. His loss was felt deeply. At some point, the positives will add up enough to equal success. By last year’s standings, the worst team played the best team and lost by 2 (one was an empty net). This same effort in Nashville or Chicago would yield better results. Detroit is now heading to Florida, who has had their number for a long time now. The effort from tonight needs to be replicated. It may not equal success, but it will certainly show the desire to continue to improve.

I agree. There’s, literally, no shame in losing to the best. The effort was much better. There are glimpses of good things for the future |

Those quick passes on the breakaways are killing them. TB defense knows what to look for and takes the lane |

Good effort. I'll take it. We had a few chances to bury it. Good teams capitalize. We're not a good team. Tampa has Fat Cat syndrome. I'd bet they'll lose their next game. I think Detroit will beat Florida. Fabbri and especially Zadina were really missed. Good to have both of them back. We need to get Bertuzzi back now. |

How do Detroit fans like Fabbri? Thought he was talented but injuries hurt him and other players stepped up |

Fabbri has been fine. Covid knocked him out for a few games. Hopefully he can stay on the ice now. |

I’m embarrassed to say that brought a tear to my eye. Thanks for that. The commenters make this so much fun. It’s crazy to feel like we’re all hanging out but some of you are hundreds or thousands of miles away! One day, God willing, we’ll have an HB get together |

That’s it. It showed me things I needed to see. Zadina is a player that got a lot of heat from fans. We missed on a very good D man, but man Zadina has a skill set that turns up the heat. Fabbri, man, he was humbled early on with a ton of injuries. He looks grateful and happy to be out there. I would like to see that line back with Ryan. They just played so well together |

I think it was the perfect storm. St Louis just became so deep that Fabbri couldn’t grab a spot where he could shine. In Detroit he could slide right into the top 6. I love this kid’s attitude. I bet he’s a morning person, but I forgive him for that |
