They were committed to Demko for the future. That made Markstrom and his 6x6 asking price expendable. Sorry, but holding onto an injury prone 31 year old goaltender for another 6 years would've been completely shortsighted.

No point paying that when you ultimately want to give the young guy the job. So it looks a lot better to sign Holtby at 4.3M a season for 2 years to split duties while Demko continues maturing.

Perhaps this was the best possible thing to happen... the team can no longer hide hideous defensive play behind stellar goaltending like in the bubble.

The true weaknesses of this group are undeniable now.

Ultimately not worried about Hughes, Petey, or some of the other core pieces going forward because I KNOW they are better than this.

But the group is completely dysfunctional right now, and it looks worse with each passing game.

They need to do something to slow down the bleeding.

Team isn't all that different from last season. Either that was the best every player was going to play last year or something is off this year.

There is a lot of people not doing their jobs and I don't think TG could put out a line up that works together if his life depended on it.

Hirsch's comments were interesting...sad to hear there might be an issue in the room. The crazy schedule has clearly caused some pressure points...someone needs to be a man and get the everyone driving in the same direction.
