All of the top front offices these days have a nice balance between good talent evaluation and analytics. Aquilini meanwhile went from one extreme to the other. - Nucker101
FA is never going to pay for MG front office needs. |

Another 6 years of a new rebuild it is then. - manvanfan
I was in favor of it back when Benning took over, but I wouldn't say I agree with it now. We have a young core, we have good pieces, we need to get rid of major dead weight and get rid of some bad contracts, but I feel like we are in a vastly different situation than when Benning first took over. |

The (frank)ed up irony is that they needed a true rebuild back in like 2013, now they need more of a re-tool which is what they thought they needed when Benning took over. It’s been ass backward for a long time. |

Yes, it seems that everyone who questioned Benning was ran out of town.... from TL to Gilman to Brackett.
The result has not been the team's front office getting stronger, it has resulted in it becoming a despots lair.
Everyone who said not to sign Sutter to that contract, gone, Gilman.
Those who didn't want Beagle and Roussel, gone, Linden.
Those who wanted tchunk instead of OJ and ehlers instead of JV, gone, Brackett.
True or not, those departures happened because of Benning. |

I think analytic needs believe this, but as Stevie Y said, yup we have an analytics department, but they are not involved in any decision making, but are available if any of us need to check on some stats. |

The GM should be fired he created this mess. The players are quitting on the GM not coach

even former NHL'ers can tell when a team isn't trying - Nucker101
This is 100% true IMO. If FA wants to be cheap and wait until end of summer, at least we'll get a top pick for it. |

I honestly can't remember where the fan base or hb community was back then, but I don't think anyone could argue that today vs 7 or however many years ago is even close to being the same. I also don't think people should assume you are panicking cause you're wanting change in some capacity. Something needs to change, cause last night was more than just a loss in my opinion, it was embarrassing (and nothing to do with who we lost to or how bad the score differential was) |

I’m guessing “Yes, sir” is the way to stay employed in Vancouver, instead of having healthy debates and discussions that embrace both sides of evaluation style(eye test + analytics). |

In my opinion, it's more Benning and management than it is green. Green has been working with the hand he's been dealt. For me, it's not this specific series that has made me concerned, it's the bigger picture. We got our asses handed to us by the habs, but no one panicked, cause the effort was at least there. Last night was concerning not cause they lost, but how. There is something more than roster change that is causing this team to play like this. When you dive deeper into how bad the canucks are playing, aside from this series, it shows a very very broken group, in every position and in every stat. I think a management overhaul needs to happen before a coaching change, but thats just me. - Codes1087

Tampa has one of the largest analytical staffs in the league, Canucks one of the smallest. And the nerds applaud most of Tampa’s moves so either it’s all just a crazy coincidence or they do value analytics more than Benning does |

Edler is his best option vs Matthew's
Schmidt vs Tavares
And he has benn playing with Hughes
While I agree with you in some capacity, he also doesn't have the best roster to optimize either lol |

Tampa Bay a decade ago also got a 1st and 2nd overall. Plus a 3rd overall a few years later. |

That's because Elmer is an old school scout who's applying the same philosophy to his GM position. That's what VAN signed up for.

If there is one thing i'd fire Benning for it would be for his inability to draft defencemen. |

Yup, Hughes fell to him. The new GM will have plenty to choose from with the lottery pick.

I'd make a case for 5 or 6 reasons to fire him before that, but I'd agree with that assessment for sure. I think he's had a big enough opportunity to turn this franchise completely around now. |

I am sure the analytic department was heavily involved in those picks, as well as the trades for Goodrow and Coleman and Cernak.
