Doing a bit of capfriendly number crunching, with next season in mind. Currently the Canucks have 13 players signed, with 23 million in cap space.
Let's assume that Pouty signs a comparable to Barzal(7 million per) and Hughes signs a comparable to Krug(6.5 million)
That puts remaining cap at 9.5 million, with 8 players to sign. Demko, will take at least 2.5 million, leaving 7 million with 7 players remaining to sign, to fill out the 23 man roster.
If the Canucks sign one free agent in the 3 million range(Pearson?), that leaves 6 remaining players, need to be signed at the league minimum 750,000.
Benning not leaving much room for his replacement to work with.

I think this is the offseason the (new?) GM makes some hard moves:

- buyout LE if there isn't a trade to be made (saves 2 mil)
- package Myers or Rous to Seattle (saves 3+ mil)
- send JV for a pick/package for a defenseman
- try and poach a team like Tampa who won't be able to protect every D from Seattle

Unfortunately this years UFAs aren't much this season for defense, so going to have to get creative on the trades. Getting a new coach to implement a better system would also help, as the D is going to be a bit weak next year too.

Guy's a douche, but he has a point.

Part of it is the players, part of it is the system and complete lack thereof. Their team D is atrocious. No defensemen or goalie would look good in this system right now.

That would be a massive overpayment from us. Debrusk didn't our perform JV last year and his 1 assist in 6 games isn't outperforming him this year. Sure Debrusk had a good first 2 seasons, but his last 2 don't seem worth an overpayment.

I don't, and I don't miss Tanev. Markstrom sure, but I don't think we would have any more wins with him over Demko and Holtby right now. We need, at the very least, a new defensive coach and special teams coach. And while we are at it, may as well get a new head coach and GM.
