But that’s the beauty of having more picks, they missed on their first rounder but got a franchise goaltender with their second round pick.

It’s like when local boy Lucic was available in 2006 but Nonis was trading away picks like candy and we didn’t have a second rounder to take him. I don’t know if you remember but it was a story back then. Lucic was tough enough to be an NHL heavyweight at 18 years old they said, and he was.

So in 2014 when JB missed on his first's, he got a franchise goalie in the 2nd.

Canucks are still missing on Gillis era. Scott Laughton with a hat trick. Imagine if Gaunce was scoring a hat trick for the Canucks.

JB has traded for players from that era but it's cost players from the future in the form of picks.

Ya but when you’re finishing at the bottom of the league you need to do it often not once

This is going to be a huge problem, moving forward.
Canucks have 2 flyweights as their top production guys, with no-one on the team able to dish out some toughness on a consistent basis. Fuck these guys won't even bump a player.

What a mess.

Podz will help

The Canucks have or had 5 of the top 36 picks on their roster at one time or another, from the 2014 draft.

Washington Capitals were all over Philadelphia, they’re a fast big heavy team, Podkolzin will definitely help. We need more dogs!

Set new record highs for giving up scoring chances in a game. Two games in a row. Canucks weren't this bad last year. It wasn't just goaltending. The entire team was better.
- manvanfan

They’re not as bad, I agree. But they were mediocre or just above mediocre last year. A slightly positive goal differential in a meh division despite getting great goaltending means that your team probably needs work.

I know they’re not this bad, this is a locker room issue, clearly something’s going on.

I agree with what guys like Burke and Gillis have said, if I had this core I’d surround them with bigger players who can skate. Instead it’s a lot of dudes who are either too slow or too small/soft. I like the type of depth the Avs/Blues/Knights/Caps/Bolts have.

I don’t think it was just goaltending against st.louis or minny. It was a dominant top6 amd powerplay.

Getting out shot and out-chanced at 5v5 is not a long term recipe for winning.

Having lots of draft picks clearly helps. Even if they aren't yours.

I think it’s clearly bigger than that. It’s a good chunk of the team that’s not motivated. Whether it’s due to coaching or management, I don’t know but if it was just a player or 2 then I doubt the majority of team would look this disinterested

There is something going on. If the issue is the players that moved on, you've got a bigger issue than a GM. You have an extremely soft, fragile group of players that will never win in this league and you might as well start trading players while they are young while the value is still high.

Not aimed at you but every draft no one wants the bigger tougher guys. They want the skilled guys even in the late rounds.

I mentioned in the offseason Canucks should sign Perry cheap it was not received well in here.

Yup.
When Tyler Motte is your most aggressive player, something is wrong. Is the coaching telling players not to hit, is coaching giving players shit for not being physical.
As an example, when Jake first started out, he was hitting at about 2 hits per game, he got that bs suspension and hasn't hit anywhere near what he did when he started out, why is that?
Bo, who is a beast, might throw a check every 5th game,, the list goes on and on.
Why won't these guys play physical?

Hopefully Gadjovich and Lind and Podkolzin can help out in this aspect.
Heck, even Tryamkin...did I really just say that.

Players like Perry, Getzlaf, anybody last name Tkachuk don't come around too often anymore. Podz might be close to it though.

Here is an example mention Tryamkin on this thread

He is a stay at home big guy and despite most people's dislike for him he will mix it up if needed.

Getzlaf is available , Ducks want to get rid of him

Yeah, it’s a fine line. You don’t want to miss out on a Tom Wilson or Josh Anderson and draft a Shinkaruk but you don’t want to miss out on an EP or Hughes and draft Logan Brown or Jake Virtanen.

Gadj had a good tilt last night he drew even against a bigger guy. Lind is a talented sh1t disturber .
