Ah, the old Nazem Kadri hit and run. Kadri’s gotten better, but I remember him running away from everyone on the ice if he thought he’d get hit. Gudas, good grief, I’d love to see Smith pull that number. GS is the perfect tough guy. Skills on the ice, can make plays, can make you pay, and he’s really nice to animals.

Second period thoughts are up. Thank God for Greiss and for some good bounces. Staal and Smith get us on the board.


Second Period - wow. Greiss has done a lot for this Red Wings squad and they gave him a couple goals. Whoever had Marc Staal scoring on a backhand, buy a lotto ticket. Smith was rewarded for some hard worker and was exactly where the team needs him in the O zone. Every part of me wants this young man as a permanent on the roster. There’s no excuse to sit him or squad him regardless of who comes back. Period. This game, even if Detroit weren’t up by two, is showing so much important play. Hard nosed, tight checking, and combined with some very lucky bounces. They happen, and I’m glad they’re happening for the Wings. I feel like the refs are letting way too many things go against Florida. The Gudas head shot should have the Wings seeing a few make up calls go their way (though I’ve had someone insist those don’t exist). Greiss is a God send and I’m hoping Detroit can show strong possession in the third to reward him for it.

That's why the kids should be playing. Young players get better. Old players just get older.

Hey, wait a minute; I just thought of sumpin: The Wings have some DAMN good young kids!!!!!! If the NHL drops to 40 games, why not give these kids some ice time? If nothing else, they get the exposure and start to form a more cohesive bond. I know that there can be negative impacts of losing whilst playing. BUT, are there not even MORE negative impacts for NOT playing on an otherwise bad team (“Geez, these guys can’t do shirt. And I’m on the TS all season. Exactly how bad am I???”).

Listen, I’m 53, sign me to the TS, put me in the next FL game, I’ll wear “0”, face-off and I’ll throw hands with him.....and PAY THE WINGS to do it. Seriously, J said something a few blogs ago about being physical. Something like this goes down, Gudas needs to go down. Period. His actions call for a serious beat-down, establish a line that says “lokk, we’re bad, but I’ll beat you into submission for crap like that, punkass. Throw hands. Let’s go.”
