Canucks aren't cap strapped? Why didn't we sign Tyler toffoli at 4 mill per for 4 years as a 28 year old. Didnt the gm say he ran out of time cause he couldn't move money? Dude it's ok I know I get a bit hot on here sometimes but open your eyes. I wish the best for the team and good luck to them but those poopty contracts are hurting the locker room with decent players.leaving you can tell when JT miller called it a reset cause of lost.players in the off-season. I hope we have a new leader.gm wise for our next step.

They could be adding is the point. And on that topic not wanting toffoli over holtby is ridiculous bad assessment of cap
- Jkuzzi

Holtby is two years Toffoli is four years.

Ask your buddy in here who is laughing at the cap if he wanted Toffoli in the summer for four years because I heard him repeatedly say a hard no to Toffoli for four years.

I seem to remember you saying a definite no to Toffoli for four years. Did you change your mind ?

That's right, I didn't want him for 4 years. Two or 3 would have been fine, otherwise a 2nd & a prospect for 10-20 games is dreadful asset management.

lol but it's fun. Should we do a Burke vs Nonis thread??

Anyway you ever listen to that American Rock band RIOT? Kind of like a poor mans Aerosmith... reminds me a bit of the CDN band Anvil that never really made it big but were pretty decent...

Not signing Marly and Tanev was smart imo. Letting toffoli got for Jake and or hiltby is (frank)in ridiculous.

Without loui we could maybe signed Hall for 1 year apparently as well. What was he 1 year 8 mill? Tt and hall added to the team hmmmmm yeah the cap didn't hurt us at all. Not saying he'd sign but he may be tempted then he can leave the year after

- Jkuzzi

We could add Hall next year or another big name. Lets see when we get there.

I do know three teams in our division went all in this year and only one will make it out. They will all have cap issues next year .

I'm going to be interested to see what kind of team Ron Francis puts together on expansion draft day.

If Benning is still here next season, Seattle is really going to make Vancouver look bad

I don't see how this team adds Hall without dumping significant salary. Also, this team needs help on the back end and a real 3C before another top 6 forward. The top 6 is the only decent looking part about this team.

Francis won't have the liberties like McPhee did in Vegas I wouldn't expect Seattle to be as good out of the gate. IMO lol

I don't care what Gillis did, we are talking about Benning.

I think the pandemic helps him, so many teams in cap hell, he'll be able to bend them over. Plus be a major player in the UFA market.

Benning is the worst GM I've seen since following the Canucks so debating him vs any other GM is kind of like comparing any NHL player to Loui Eriksson.

Agreed and as P Gem pointed out, it is not a glorious list of former GM's. The bar was set pretty low to start with.

Personally I thought JT Miller was a big move and when these guys stop pouting and get back on track most things will straighten out. I fully expect them to use a draft pick to move Loui in his final year but I do have questions about draft picks value this year seeing there is limited access for scouting. If that is the case it will be delayed a year and we have to wait out the contracts.

Minor point — Burke had been a GM for Hartford for a year prior to the Canucks

- SlightlyOffside

You're right, he was, I think the point is still valid though.

Mike Koivu retires, hopefully Loui understands this.

This was not an easy decision for me as I have loved every minute of my short time in Columbus and really hoped to be able to help this team accomplish its goals this season, but the bottom line is I haven't been able to get to the level of play that I need to be true to myself and fair to my teammates, so the time is right for me to retire from hockey. I have been extremely blessed and I am eternally grateful to the Minnesota Wild and Columbus Blue Jackets organizations for the opportunities they have given me to live out my dreams of playing in the National Hockey League for the past 16 years.

If only we still had Torts to help him along
