He was instrumental in the Canucks building the #1 PP in the league, so, despite your feelings, he played a major role in the success of the club in 2011. I’m sure you were cheering for them to lose though as you hate everybody from that unbelievable team
- Pacificgem

That team probably wins the Cup in 5 or 6 games max with today's officiating and play style

Those CHI-Van series were still some of the best hockey I've ever seen, both teams were loaded with talent. Those series were usually better than the WCF

Nope I cheered for them, sorry. I liked Aaron Rome and Kesler in that series

I think if they would’ve got by Chicago in 2010 they’d have won the cup. That 2010 team was really good too.

Rome got too much hate, I think I was guilty of it too back then. He was solid for his role.

Point being, letting Öhlund walk and trading for Ehrhoff turned out to be huge in their success for a few seasons. Letting Willie Mitchell walk was stupid.

I think everyone loved him up until that series, he definitely did not leave a great last impression. I wouldn't give Gillis full credit for walking away, I'm pretty sure it was rumoured that the Canucks offered him a contract, but Buffalo just came in with that monster contract.
- Nucker101

Like Calgary gave Markstrom

I think if Toffoli wanted two years he would still be a Canuck. I don't blame the players for taking the money and I am glad Canucks did not fold to the pressure. He took the better offer the same as Ehrhoff did.

hate blinders much, Myers is better than Edler, Schmidt, Benn, in all round play and a better defender than Hughes but Hughes puts up points while passing the puck to Mathews to score.
- Makita

Hey, Makita, it’s hard for me to agree with you on this, so I’m curious...

Advanced stats don’t appear to support this view (at least the ones I’ve seen recently) and while Hughes has been a horrible defender this year, Myers is right behind him on high danger chances, expected goals against, and turnovers. Surprisingly, Schmidt is doing the best in those stats.

what are you seeing in Myers that gives you certainty that he is the best of this lot?

(Honest question)

I’d walk away from Marky and Tanev even in hindsight but I’d trade away Jake and whoever to keep Toffoli all day.

I’m curious too. I assume it’s an expectations thing? Myers looks worse than Benn and Schmidt outside of his couple of glaring turnovers has been decent. I like he’s the only dman who stands up at the blueline to check puck carriers instead of just giving it up without resistance.

I honestly don’t think I’d sign Myers for half his cap hit right now

“#canucks  fans screaming outrage for their favorite radio station losing their jobs whilst simultaneously screaming for nearly everyone in the Canucks (including ownership) organization to lose their jobs is peak hypocrisy.”

I would sign Toffoli short term. We will lose Pearson this year also but am willing to go with a young top 6 next year.

Jake won’t succeed under the Benning Green regime, they refuse to let go of his draft position and just let him be him.

You know, when Yzerman drafted Brett Connolly at #6 he kept him for a few years, didn’t like what he saw and turned him into two second round picks. Why can’t Benning do that?

I’d trade Pearson at the TDL. I’m not sold on Pod as a top 6 guy, especially right away but I’d love to be wrong.

I think letting Willie walk was worse, but he had a serve concussion and turned into a fatty during his time off so I can see why the team was hesitant. He was awesome when healthy in his prime. I'll never forget that massive hit he laid on Toews

Ohlund was getting up in there in age and even started playing less physical which was his MO, his body was breaking down after all the wars against Iginla over the years lol.

He signed a 7 year deal and played 2 of them.

Gillis let Ohlund walk in 2008 because he wanted 3.6 mil. per year. Bad cap management . Can you imagine if he stayed for 2011 run? Walked for free too no assets returned. Poor cap management

- VANTEL

Ohlund was great for us, he went to Florida where his play fell off of a cliff.
I don't even think he finished of his contract playing. That nice made room for Hamhuis. JB would've given Ohlund 4mx6 ntc to provide character and the nucks wouldn't have gotten to the SCF.

I have not but Anvil is one of my favourite rock band stories. Anvil! The Story of Anvil is one of the best rock docs out there. They were essentially the real Spinal Tap.
