First off I have to admit I'm not an advanced stats guy, I am more inclined to Yzermans thinking that advanced stats help to form a decision not drive the decision, stats are just too subjective (much like my opinion).

I have watched Myers backcheck, win the board battles, gain possession and look to pass to the forward, only the forward is not looking for the pass, has already exited the zone, is afraid to get hit, and turns the puck over where as Myers now has to try and win the board battles all over again. But Myers is singled out as the problem, not the lackluster effort of the forward.
Myers reach has defused more plays in the defensive zone, but again I feel the softness of the teammates just puts Myers in the hot seat again.
Myers has a terrific shot from the blueline, can hit, and hit hard, saw Edler do that 1 game out of 15.
The other thing is this place is a pile on, gang up place, a player makes an error and one persons criticism turns into majority piling on.
Last game zero-zero Schmidt has all the time to make a play but kicks the puck to Rielly, one nothing, Myers plays the puck to Hughes, Hughes no look pass to Matthews 2-1. But Myers is the scapegoat and Hughes is revered because he puts up points, but in my opinion costs more points against than any other dman.

So my main issue is people here are not objective, if Myers makes a bonehead play he should be criticized, if his teammates make bonehead plays they should be criticized, not all on Myers.

I'm starting to like Torts more and more, make a mistake, have a seat, regardless if it is Hughes, Pettersson, Miller, Schmidt, whomever.

Thanks — appreciate the perspective. I cringe every time Myers touches the puck, so the stats reinforce what I see. I think he plays better without it...also, he is playing more minutes & tougher minutes this year and perhaps he looks less effective (to me) because of that.

No thanks to Torts. Like his willingness to hold players accountable, though.

As it should be. Boston is a great city with excellent sport teams.

I’ve only ever been to the airport there. Had a Sam Adams during a layover.

Freidman's 31 thoughts. Good read on Burkie.

9. Sounds like Nashville is one of the teams interested in Vancouver’s Adam Gaudette. Boston was checking out Jake Virtanen, but I’m not sure where that stands. The Sharks poked around during the off-season.

11. This is not a shot at Vancouver as much as it is about the confidence of both Montreal and Toronto. Claude Julien and Sheldon Keefe were unafraid to play depth lines against Bo Horvat’s line. It was two coaches saying, “We’re deep and we’re going to win.” The Canadiens and Maple Leafs play Wednesday and Saturday.

This guy thinks Torts wants out

Its definitely a weird situation, but I don't seem him as a quitter. His career has had a bit of a renaissance in Columbus for keeping these underdogs competitive.

The Athletic was reporting that Laine "verbally disrespected" a coach which makes the postgame comments from Torts make a bit more sense:

What could Nashville offer for Gaudette? I still think Debrusk would be a good addition here...

Last time there was 63 or 64 . Fenway Park, Mantle, Marris both homered and Richard Raditz came out in relief.

Although this is true, the Habs have a game tomorrow against the Oilers.
The Leafs have had an excellent schedule so far.

But also an exodus of really good players under Torts (Panarin,PLD etc) sooner or later that has to play into it. Maybe Torts has just had enough of the self-entitled millennials lol

This kind of feels like the Kesler era again. When opposition can control the match ups, just take a chance that Horvat isn't going to one of those games where he singlehandedly produces offense at even strength so the rest of your lineup has prime matches

I guess we are analyzing the player differently, and also the focus of this group here is on one player. Watch all the defenceman with a critical eye, not just Myers when he is left out to dry by his teammates.

I was just being silly with Torts, but I do wish Green would grow some balls and not just single out Virtanen, or play Bailey 6mins while literally everyone else has quit giving effort.

I was reading Helene Elliotte earlier she seems to think the league is going to slim down to 48 games now.

Have to see how many games actually get played.
It is hockey and that is still much better than no hockey.

I will be glad when Podkolzen arrives. He has a tenacious style and a lot of puck control. That second line needs it.

Well in comparison to his Vancouver era, he's at least hireable these days. I don't put the exodus squarely on him, players wanted out of Columbus long before he arrived (Nash, Gaborik, Jeff Carter, Johansen was halfway out the door when Torts arrived but that one worked out); small market is tough so he looks good for squeezing some success out of a place no one seems to want to play in

I’d take the “under”, based on what’s been happening in the last couple of weeks. 8 games is like a ~2 week schedule compression.

Teams that have had a poor start and played more games will pro-rate poorly in the final standings, compared to those with better starts and fewer games. Maybe that will help us with a higher draft position.

That last sentence from the Torts quote I posted is 100% the attitude missing in Vancouver. The guy has a standard and doesn't care if its a franchise player or if they are down a goal with minutes to go, he's committed to the culture

It's not that I don't like Torts at all just that his coaching style is going the way of the do-do. Players (especially younger ones) don't respond well to that style anymore. Believe me I see it everyday in the rink the young kids getting yelled at just tune the coaches out and do their own thing anyways lol

There are better ways to connect with the kids now than a Torts style approach IMO
