Instead of Crosby, go for Getzlaf. He’s a UFA next year and probably won’t demand much in salary, or playing time. He’s a solid leader. 3rd line center for a couple years |

I agree he has had a target on his back. But I do think he created some of that. I can't cite off the top of my head, but I do remember his first several years in the league there were a lot of players, coaches and other that would openly report on his conduct as a player and it was that of what I stated. To the likes I have not heard of from other Top 5 picks before. NOW, is some of it probably overblown, sure. And I think you hit on something with Hank. Hank is a consummate professional and class act and for him to go out of his way to do something like that, may be indicative of the aura that Crosby created from himself as well. Just a small microcosm of an argument.
Also, I can speak in pretty extreme terms.. So my previous post tone may have been higher than I meant it to be. - NYRCeph
Again, I admit to having a bias opposite to most here.
Thanks to TSN and The Hockey News, I started following Crosby's career by the time he was 13! Even at that age, he had a professionalism and focus toward the game I have rarely seen in any player. Always admired and respected that. So, maybe I didn't see some instances with impartial eyes. |

I always liked Getzlaf. Always reminded me of Messier.
Just saying trading for anyone like Crosby is stupid. Problem w/ Getzlaf is he’d probably retire before going to a new team. |

We dont need an aged 3rd line center. We need a solid second line center. |

The key is we can’t give up the farm for someone tho. At some point you’re right, they’ll need to get a top two center, and the org is going to have to determine what assets they’re ok with trading away
My inclination is Jones, Robertson (not real sure how is rated atm) and this years first would be on the table. Perhaps Kravtsov because of the depth on the wings. Jones is supposedly developing very nicely |

Just get the Russian/Fin out of FL and have a Panarin/Barkov/Buch line.

We need the 2021 version of Brassard and Zibanejad (coincidentally traded for each other). Buy low players with upside. Not sure of any similar type players out there, although I wasn’t very familiar with either at the time of trading for them. |

At some point, they will and should trade the farm for a position of need. Not to belabor a point, but they need to deal from a position of strength.
When's the deadline this year? |

Feels so far away
Hopefully they make a deal before then and avoid the increased price tags. Or maybe by then we'll be sellers again Might be when He-who-shall-not-be-named gets dealt. |

The goal would be to catch a player on the up, not while the ship is sinking
Christian Dvorak is having a pretty solid season. Yotes would be good partners, actually. |

My point being, Zib for brassard is a once in a lifetime trade lol. It’s not as easy as just typing what you said and boom we have our guy
In Johansens case I get it, he’s trending down. But he’s only 28, has 53% career on faceoffs and for the most part has been a solid pts producer. He needs a change of scenery probably and Nashville has to start thinking about a rebuild so it’s not like he wouldn’t be available. This is the kind of guy that we’re looking at imo
For instance if you told me we get Johansen, with 3 mill retained, for Strome lol and Jones or a first..I think I do that. 5 yrs left at 5 mill a year for a number two center isn’t awful by any stretch |

Both tough as nails Prairie boys.
Thing about Getzlaf is that he (and Perry) lead the league in stick infractions year after year while being premier player(s). His discipline was never what it could have been. What will it be like when he is the slowest guy out there? And what sort of effect would that have on his leadership. |

they would, I am sure they'd want a first as part of a package, that's a trade I'd be after in the offseason, I want to see where our first rounder is first before I deal it away |

I can’t endorse it. He’s not even playing center. He plays with Petterson. |

Agreed. Being a middling team is difficult to part ways with your first rounder, this year especially. On the one hand, our cupboards are stocked. But on the other, we really do need some help.
Been a lot of mentions that this year is D heavy in the first round. If we zig when everyone zags and can get one of, if not the top center prospect, I don't think I'd want to trade away the pick. |
