Every group is different. With different people and dynamics. Sure it's a business and they'll move on. I think having such a young group that clearly had strong bonds it might have been more difficult. Not certain on that, but I mean as you get older and more experienced it's easier to let go. Some of these kids are still learning that, not just in hockey, but in life. - Load Management
Agree with this 100% .
Both young guys though are going to be making 7mil next year so they need to know it is a business . They were both hurried through the process of turning pro . This is the grown ups table.
I think they will both be fine but there is an adjustment curve.

Sutter and Baer are done this season. Rous, beag and LE will account for 12 m. - Retinalz
Assuming he's not resigning Sutter for a raise. |

I could write you a novel. It's one of those things you only understand if you've spent a a great deal of time immersed in it. Like growing up on teams in locker rooms, joining new teams, making new friends losing old friends, year after year, while working toward a common goal. Sitting next to guys you couldn't stand a week earlier only to find out they are pretty cool when you're pulling the same rope.
Good times, bad times. The bonds you make are almost like family because of the love and respect involved. I have friendships to this day that grew from simple years in places I never thought I'd ever be. All athletes share these experiences. Good rooms reflect a strong set of values that are seated in some of the things I described. Leaders simply keep the pulse of it alive during those good and bad times. - Load Management

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. Tanev or Toffoli having meh seasons with their new team or that they didn't win with the canucks doesn't take away from the fact that their absence has left a void in our team's locker room this season. Players will get over it (as they should because they are professionals) but the damage has been done. |

Didn't know that, I just thought it was based off of the last year of the current contract, good to know. - Pres.cup
I think contracts signed after July 1 this year the qualifying offer has to be 10 % higher than the AAV.
Contracts signed before July 1 the QO has to be 10 % higher than the last year of the contract. Boesers final year of current contract his salary is 7.5 so his QO has to be 8.3 mil |

I thought that would be offset by having proven veterans in the room, winners like Beagle & Sutter. Guys that help insulate the young guys, as they learn to be pros. |

I think he is pretty accurate also .
What do you think of giving Hughes 7 mil per?
He has been a tire fire in his own end. If he continues to play like this 7 mil could be really over paying a player. - VANTEL
I wouldn't pay EP and Hughes the same amount. I don't think QH has earned it. Petey is having a down year in his third season, but he's also hit like 8 posts, and has still shown enough of a rounded game to earn his money. Hughes is having a down second year, so he has less to work off, and he's playing way worse than his first year (defensively). |

Can't you see they had Tanev and Marky in there to insulate and teach them to be pros, and their final act was ripping off the band-aid to expose deep emotional wounds so they could learn how to be pros via emotional trauma. Genius move by JB. Helps set them up in their career. |

Hughes is only getting $7M per on a bridge deal, he'll want more if you want to lock up his UFA years. |

The thing about having the same agent sucks. I would pay Quinn 5 mil . He has no arb rights and can not be offer sheeted.
If he said no I would be on the phone to Winnipeg or other teams asking what's the offer? See if there was a good move.

Prediction for tonight:
4-2 Canucks win, last one into an empty net
Strong game from Bo
Marky keeps it close for the Flames
Canucks have had a couple of days to regroup and practice, plus they control the match ups with last change. |

It might be as simple as their roles changed within the group this year and they are adjusting themselves. They've got more responsibility leadership wise and are learning how to fill an unexpected void others left behind. Growth and maturation isn't a linear thing.

This is a big part of Horvat's growth, as a player and a captain. The Sedin's were the last great example. |

I'd do 6 for Hughes, 7 for Petey (structured very similarly to Barzal's). |

Per Darren Haynes Twitter:
Even-strength goals against:
Quinn Hughes
- after 16 gm last year | 13
- after 16 gm this year | 26 (increase of 13)
Noah Hanifin
- after 12 games last year | 13
- after 12 games this year | 4 (decrease of 9)
It's oversimplifying it, but the Chris Tanev effect in a nutshell.

Hey I am going to ask you a serious question? Are you always a miserable ___ because of your physical issue or is it the drugs?
I am trying to figure out why a person would wake up every day looking for an argument? Is it just you are an idiot or is it because you are in pain that makes you miserable? - VANTEL

Petey will come around no worries. Hughes needs to focus on D as much as points he'll get it together as well. |

Karlsson won the Norris twice and has been an up/down +/- player his entire career. Lot's of Hockey yet to be played dude...
Don't toss the towel in on Schmidt and Hughes just yet...
- LordHumungous
I still don't understand why Hughes and Schmidt aren't a pair. It should be:
Hughes - Schmidt
Edler - Myers
OJ - Benn |
