I can't see the Canucks getting a 1st and a 3rd back for Miller, so wouldn't you be trading him at a loss? I don't think getting rid of him is a good idea - NorthNuck
they're not forced to do anything so getting rid of him just to do so would be absolutely wrongheaded.
listen to what's out there. if there is a great deal, pull the trigger. if not, he's still a piece of the core.
this doesn't mean that jb has to come out and say that "everybody is on the trading block and is available." what i mean is that whenever another team inquires about ANY player, the response should be, "i hadn't considered trading him but what types of assets would you offer?"
my house isn't for sale but i wouldn't stop anyone from saying a number. |

For sure.
This group is trying to play 80's Oilers hockey and are finding out it doesn't work 40 years later.
Players are faster, smarter and better than that era.
Canucks are way to predictable. - Reubenkincade
this is what's so troubling about their play. why is the team so slow? why are they so slow in the neutral zone? this should be a hard skating team!
imo, it's a combo of coaching and player indifference. making a coaching change will help but it's not the only source of the bad play. |

i don't disagree with this.
i'm just a bit weary of trying to replace everybody mid-season. if they can get the right person (at the top), asap would be the way to go. it just seems that this team (owner) could benefit from having a serious and systematic hiring process. if they can do this mid-season, great. if it's not possible, wait until you can.
this is a domino situation though. the only question is who is the first domino? will it be a player trade, coach firing or gm firing? - RealityChecker
I think they should wait. Changing this minute will present you a short list of candidates as a replacement. Wait until offseason as you first suggested and see who is available . There will be more coaches than Green available after this year.
Some teams that were expected to do lots better like NYR NSH DAL SJ MINN all having slow starts and may make changes. I can see Poille available who was good before but fallen.
I would wait until the offseason. |

I agree with this.
What we don't know is, if that process isn't already under way. Similar to how surprised people were when Burke got hired by Pittsburgh.
Aquilini doesn't appear to be a guy who likes negative media for as long as he has, with Benning at the helm, and as long as he keeps that type of information away from Benning, who tends to have loose lips, then the fans/media wouldn't know if anything the process is under way.

i think you and i are of the same opinion as to when to make the move.
the only issue is how does this affect jb/tg this season? if the decision is made to fire either of them (or both), how much leeway do they get with respect to their jobs? if it becomes clear that the organization is just waiting until the end of season to make changes, the players will figure it out as well. that could make an already disastrous season worse with a (moody?) dressing room.
a final point: though you and i agree on timing, i think we disagree on whether it's certain that jb should be fired. you're more on the fence than i so what happens if the team turns it around in the last 20 games? or the last 10 or last 25? would you (the organization not you personally) fire either or both if the team goes on an incredible run to end the season?
i would fire him no matter what but then the optics become bad and it gives more fodder to the media.
serious decisions. billion dollar company so these are big boy decisions that we (fans) can discuss so casually. let's not forget these decisions have millions and millions of dollars in ramifications. |

Pittsburgh hired a new GM and President mid season. - Marwood
yeah they did.
and they also want to compete.
i'm not saying it's not possible to find a good quality replacement midseason. i'm just saying that do so midseason is harder.
and FA needs things as simple as possible so he doesn't fcuk things up even more. |

Aquilini has been very quiet on twitter. He hasn't said anything up until yesterday. He just tweeted out of nowhere" Big 4 game homestand " Could mean nothing or could mean lets see what happens.

That is funny, as it is only a 3 game homestead. 1 of the games are in Calgary. |

You could listen to the pod cast of the game. Corey Hirsch talked about it during the first 10 minutes. Wouldn’t take long to find. Their exact words were “there are a lot of scouts here” and the scout from Boston is a really good friend of Corey’s. - bloatedmosquito

I have always said if it is an upgrade sure , replace him. If it is just replace him to replace him it doesn't make sense to me.
The entire coaching staff needs changing no doubt.
One of my issues about changing the GM is everything is set to fall in place . As Minivan pointed out Canucks will have close to 30 mil in cap space this year and the big signings will be Hughes Petey and Demko. Contracts should be straight forward.
You will need strong drafting and it will be needed more than ever for the next two years. Benning with five picks this year seemed to pluck out two really good looking kids in later rounds. I don't think a new GM can walk right in and get good drafting in a year where they really need it.

I think we were the better team. They just got 2 REALLY lucky goals. Demko had to make several really good saves, but Markstrom had to make even more. - Retinalz
Well, a lot of the Canucks shots were also from the outside. The only lucky goal was off Schmidt. You can think that the Canucks were better all you like, but you’re wrong, so nah nah nah nah nah nah. |

Not sure Aquilini is that concerned about the optics. The media went on and on about Green being a lame duck coach and didn't buckle by forcing Benning to give him a new contract.
As I have said, in the past, bring in a new team asap, before Benning and company do something else stupid and allow the new group some time to assess what direction they want to go down.
For all we know, they may keep Green and have him change the style of play, similar to when AV went from a defensive style to a more offensive style. |
