I will play devils advocate , who are you bringing in if you do it now? - VANTEL
I have no idea. There are some GMs floating around out there, but there are also AGMs from other teams that could potentially be good.
I don't have anyone in mind, but to think there are no good GM options out there wouldn't be realistic. From a quick google/article search:

I think if they lose this Calgary series you have to realistically think about change. For the simple fact you don't want Benning and Weisbrod making any further moves, panic moves that aren't well thought out to save the asses, you want a new administration making better decisions. At least in theory. - Pacificgem
i don't disagree.
but let's play this out: if/when jb gets fired, who takes over? are you firing weisbrod at the same time? if not, does he take over in the interim?
how quickly can they find a replacement?
in the interim, what role does the "acting" gm get? what decisions is he allowed to make? if none, does this mean that tdl comes and goes without moves?
i don't trust this ownership group to make a good decision quickly. if/when they do make quick decisions, it means that their mind was made up before the vacancy (green hiring) and that other perspectives aren't even considered. that's partially why we got where we are.
you and i have been in agreement that where we are now was not unexpected though the severity is. jb should have been replaced earlier but his mistakes were allowed to compound... and here we are. |

I agree and it seems his play is a clear indication of that. - Reubenkincade
That is too bad . He was very good last year . I don't know if the stories are true but his play sure looks like he doesn't care so replace him.

I just sold my condo in yaletown for a killing. Never put it on the market just responded to a request from a realtor who’s buying up real estate for his Hong Kong clients. Nothing’s sacred and always listen to offers! - bloatedmosquito
You probably would have made much more if you listed it. Market is so hot right now. |

I think, from a pure area of cap and contention window, the thought of trading JTM has to be entertained at some point. He'll be 30 when his contract is done in a couple years and be getting a raise over his 5.25. Is that the guy you want to sign to a big contract at that point?
Not saying trade him this year, or at all, just has to be thought out. - NewYorkNuck
If the team is well out of the PO's by TDL could be...but I still think this club is better than they show. But with this format and divisional 3-4 point games almost every night the hole is becoming too deep already. they have to winn 5 in a row just to get back to .500 lo |

I would wait and not do the knee jerk reaction. - VANTEL
It is only a knee jersey reaction, if Aquilini hasn't already been considering it. |

This is not aimed directly at you . As I said if you are going to replace him make it an upgrade and not a knee jerk .
Gillman has never been a GM ever . He is very good at contracts and if he was helping Gillis with drafting then he sucks big time.
Drury I have seen reports is going nowhere . He has been offered jobs that he has turned down.
Zito I have nothing? I don't know his resume.

Okay, now I understand. I am kinda like lefty and not that smart.
The optics and success of last seasons play-in thingy, may have actually saved Benning from not being let go before this season - Reubenkincade

Franco should take over the day to day. Scouting staff are in place, can Benning and Weisbrod, let Green finish the year and let your new GM decide on the coaches. |

I remeber Burkie when asked when his job was on the line if he made moves to try to fix the situation, he said absolutely not.
I don't think the scouts were there last night because it was an open house to pluck players. I have a feeling one player may want out. - VANTEL
burkie says a lot of sh!t.
he also said that pitts window was closed but here is with a brand new job. |

I don't see FA wanting to spend on two GMs this year with him losing money already. I don't think he has put a lot of thought into it and the subject is only recently being considered by him.

If BOS was scouting VAN yesterday it certainly wasn't to scout JV who's benched. - VanHockeyGuy
As people said, they could be scouting Calgary too. I’m not Corey nor was I at the arena. I’m just parroting what was said on the radio. There’s a podcast and it was said in the first 10 minutes of the game. If you are of an inquiring mind, a quick listen to the podcast would confirm what Corey said.
Does it mean anything, not sure, but interesting non the less. |

He is still a good player and should get a nice return.
By keeping him, if he has lost interest here, then management needs to move on from him, as the attitude and work ethic( lack of) can become toxic on the young players, if it already hasn't.

I don't know if you seen the interview with that lady Christine Simpson and Burkie? Burkie in on take says Pitts were lucky they won a franchise player with the drop of a God damn lotto ball.
Next interview he was all happy now about winning Crosby.

Nope, I know what the market is paying per square foot and the offer we got was one of those ‘can’t refuse type’ plus we paid half the realtor fees that we normally would have
Not to go on but the downtown condo market is in trouble. Downtown is turning into a poop hole tbh and city hall is enacting laws that really screw the landlord. For the single condo owner like me it’s a losing proposition. |

here's the thing: you can run down anyone's resume. if x is so good, why was he fired from y? x hasn't been a gm so he hasn't drafted, traded etc.
no candidate is perfect. that's why you (FA) have to be systematic about the hiring process and interview several people with different plans/direction for the team. listen to everyone's opinions and then choose someone.
i think it's easier in the offseason but it doesn't mean that it's impossible during the season.
at the end of the day, jb deserves to be fired. there are better candidates out there. and your drafting argument isn't wholly without merit but it's not a major factor as well. jb relies on his drafting reports to make decisions (like all gms). those reports/opinions will be there for the next guy as well. and benning is not the only one who can run a good draft. |

I watched that interview.
Burke has repeated on several occasions his dislike of how the draft order is randomly selected. |
