I really think the one dimensional tough guys are a thing of the past in the NHL. There’s some still in the NHL after all we just inexplicably resigned our “tough guy” for another four years but that’s far from the norm in today’s NHL quite the contrary actually. If you play with an edge and finish your checks, chip in defensively and occasionally offensively that seems to be the new definition of “tough guy” in today’s NHL.
Having an old school tough guy on your team doesn’t prevent any other players taking liberties or committing cheap shots on your kids and star players. How many times has this very thing been proven over the years? It’s to me a stupid thought process. Johnston nor Martin will stop it from happening and having them in the line up instead of someone who could potentially contribute more is (frank)ing moronic imo.
