Anyone else think that players only meeting hurt Tkachuks feelings? Maybe he needs a hug! |

Missed the game but just watched the highlights, we’re lucky to have a true #1 goalie. I just don’t see Rittich getting many games unless Marky can’t go.
Still liking Valimaki game. Guys going to be a good one.
Time for a youth movement on that 4th line, gotta start playing some of the kids. If we don’t welll never know what we have.

The idiocy in this thread is approaching all-time highs. One loss and it's suicide watch again. Never mind the fact that they're 3-1 against the Canucks and have outscored them 12-7. Nevermind the fact that the Canucks are an extremely desperate team, which makes them dangerous. Nevermind the fact they'll probably blow them out tomorrow.
And bench Gaudreau for his turnovers? What do you think happens with every offensive player that teams run their offence through? Just a couple names who turn the puck over at a higher clip, Hanifin, Tkachuk, Barzal, Svechnikov, Crosby, Stone (the good one), Pastrnak, Marner, Malkin, Tavares. And Draisaitl and McDavid are right where Gaudreau is as far as turnovers go. Yeah, makes sense to bench the only guy creating offence.
It's one bad game that likely leads to another winning streak. They've still got third in the division pretty much locked up, and will probably be in the hunt for the division when they start getting their Ottawa games. - Hunkulese
Holy poop Hunk, I actually agree with you (well mostly). I should go buy a Lotto ticket...
Consistency is the challenge with this team but its not exclusive to this team. Play better next game and win resoundingly. Now if we lose like that to the Sens...

I think it probably bothers him a lot that the guys around him aren't as invested as he is, totally.
Lindholm eats an elbow and the ONLY guy to do anything about it was Tkachuk. This team hasn't had one another's back for years and it's pretty gross to watch play out. |

Did you watch any of the last 3 games? The Flames had no business winning them... Sure, they've outscored the Canucks, because Markstrom has bailed their heartless asses out every night for the last week and a half. The Flames haven't started a game the right way since the POM. They are getting drilled for period(s) at a time and then relying on a capitalizing on VERY few chances to win.
Bottom line - they've been lucky, they haven't been good.

Last two for sure. Winnipeg game I thought was pretty damn good and a actually 60 min effort.
Next two to me will be a clear indication of what this team will be for the remainder of the year.

Your problem is you forget that there are two teams that play every hockey game, maybe one and a half for Ottawa games. Sometimes, the other team is just going to be better for a period. Sometimes you need your goalie to win you games This also happens with every team. There are going to be ups and downs. Vancouver was also trying to end a losing streak and having to put up with everyone trying to fire their coach and GM. It'd be pretty much impossible to match their effort for a meaningless February game. Toronto was also flat on Saturday for a top of the division rivalry game.
I think fancy stats are overused, but they do an alright job of helping you compare a team to the rest of the league since you can't watch anyone else. All the fancy stats say the Flames are doing fine compared to the rest of the league. Their xGF% is third best in the division and they're as close to the top team as they are to the fourth place team. They also haven't gotten a chance to pad stats against Ottawa yet.
They're doing fine generating chances, doing great at preventing chances, and as everyone in here has pointed out, they haven't played their best hockey yet.

LMAO - sure, there are usually 2 teams playing... except when the Flames totally take a period off. In the first period in the last week (4 games) the Flames have been outshot 61-26. That's not just the other team being better. That's a team that doesn't come out to start the game. Now, yeah, 2 of those games were blowout first periods, 17-3 against the Oilers and 20-4 against the Canucks. But, IMO, it's almost worse that it came against those 2 teams. Can't get up for a BOA? You wanna let a team that's down and out in the Canucks totally dominate you like that?
Worse yet, look at the shot chart vs the Oilers and the one against the Canucks - the Flames shots are largely from the outside. There is 1 game in the 5 below where they dominated the quality of chances. In literally every other game, they allow their opponent easy access to the front of the net and high danger scoring areas.
This is a trend. It's not a fluke, it's not that the other team is playing necessarily better, it's that the Flames can't defend this area of the ice at all right now and they are getting caved in. The eye test, even in the wins over the last week, has been that they've been lucky moreso than good. Markstrom has not stolen a game. He's committed serial robbery to even keep these games close.
