Teammates get on each other all the time and at times things can get heated. There’s been countless times teammates have come to blows and 2 days later it’s all forgotten about. Tony didn’t even throw a punch, but he’s the one to get waived. They were looking for a reason bc apparently management and the HC didn’t like that he talked back to them at times, and if you think his political beliefs had nothing to do with this I have a bridge to sell you.

Yeah, but how many times does a player get three chances with management (last years maturity issues, this year’s maturity issues, fight with teammate).

What about you with your bosses? If you’re told to be better by them, would you do everything you can to be better? I don’t think you’d make a comment to your colleague about their performance and then get into a physical altercation with them, after being told to be better no less.

The rumors are bs, but there are real problems off the ice with his character. And no, I have not made any comment about his political opinion so don’t make this about politics.

Do you have any links/sources about last years maturity issues? And did you read Brooks article? It seems like anyone who actually gets to know the guy seems to think very highly of him, and Marc Staal said he was a well liked teammate, so i'm not sure where you're getting all this except in your head. Wouldn't you have an issue with being benched if Jack Johnson was playing over you, if you didn't there's probably more wrong with you.

So in a game where he was out for 2 goals against in the first period he got benched, you do realize players get benched for bad play, not just bad character correct?

Idk what to tell you. I’m sorry this doesn’t fit the narrative you want it to be. I’m not making it up and I’m not a political person. You’re fighting with yourself here.

Ahh yes, 4th overall in points last year for D men but because the entire team was playing like dog crap he's suddenly our worst defensemen. Did you ever even play sports?

You're the one that keeps bringing up politics and a narrative. Just seems like management was out to get the guy compared to some of the other things that have gone on with teams/players. The Rangers think they're the NE Patriots but don't have the winning pedigree to back it up.

I want the team to be successful, and right now our offense is dreadful, and our powerplay has been terrible. Fox looks good as QB on PP1 but until the goals start going in for the team people are going to continue to wonder what could have been.

You think Jack Johnson is better at defense? When you say things like he was our worst defensemen you kind of lose credibility. You could say something like he was playing poorly at the time, that he wasn't living up to potential, hell you could even say he was a distraction but to say he was our worst defensemen is just not an accurate statement.

I’m with you. He won’t play for the NYR again so it’s time to move on. Would love to see him play some games somewhere to up his trade value but don’t think that’s feasible.

Management was not out to get the guy! They just signed him to a 2 year deal for millions of dollars!

If he was such a problem why did they sign him to a 2 year deal worth millions of dollars as you put it? Why not let him walk? According to you all was good and then he got upset about being benched and had a minor altercation with a teammate, which happens all the time. Do you not remember Hank throwing dudes under the bus all the time or are you new here?

So then why was he waived by the team? Let’s here it in your words.

Why are you so sore about this? There was serious disconnect between him and front office and it came to a head, thats it, end of story. No libs or antifa were involved in it. Its sucks cause a I liked how he played last year and really thought he had turned a corner. He then starts this year and was absolutely dumpster fire.

Great news. Do you happen to know if there’s any chance tomorrow’s game gets postponed? Really hope not, Rangers should be licking their chops.

Management didn't like his personality. Had nothing to do with his game. It just seems like they didn't want another Sean Avery which is perfectly fine but they went about it in a terrible way, totally ruined the asset and any ability to get anything for him.

I just question management as a whole. Getting fleeced in the Mac/JT Miller Trade, Extending Trouba and giving him a full no move the first however many years. Drafting Lias Anderson. The way they handled Kratzov. If it wasn't for the fact we got lucky with ping pong balls and we don't end up with Kakko and Laf then imagine how bad managements moves look over the past few years. We used to trade guys like Scott Gomez for Mac, now we trade guys like Mac for AHL caliber players. It seems like everyone in here gives management and DQ way more leeway than they do any players.

I admittedly know nothing about our scouting department, but if it hasn't been overhauled recently, it needs it.

He argued with the coaches on a few occasions and his politics/publicity about them weren’t appreciated by management (Gorton). They used this incident as the way to get rid of him. Apparently he was well liked in the locker room and didn’t have problems with his teammates nor they have problems with him. Whatever value he did have the ruined by waiving him. And don’t tell me a 60 pt defenseman doesn’t have value, I don’t care what you think about his defensive play.

I don’t get why this is so hard to understand.
Read your comment. THEY USED THIS INCIDENT TO GET RID OF HIM. Why would they make ANY sort of attempt to get rid of a player that is helping them build a winning culture and team????
So, whether you are right or not (you’re not,IMO) there seemed to a lack of interest in keeping a player who scores a lot of points, who they just signed back on. Doesn’t that make you think there were a host of things happening that were negatives?
Furthermore, if this is some grand plot to run him out of town, or a huge failing by NYR brass, why is he sitting at home playing for no one?

I mean he's essentially been run out of town because he's sitting at home playing for no one. It's a huge failure by NYR Brass because they took what should have been an at least decently valuable asset, and made it worthless by how they choose to handle things.

50+ point defensemen aren't all that common, you're not going to build a winning culture by shipping those guys out of town for nothing.

I imagine those of us who are questioning why just want to understand if there were all these issues with him why was he re-signed to a 2 year deal? Could have signed him to a 1 year deal, could have let him walk, could have let him get arbitration and traded him. It seems like the only issues he had since signing his most recent contract was being pissed off about being benched (which if you're going to play JJ over him is reasonable considering he's not even really NHL caliber anymore) and the incident after the penguins game, which is no different than what Hank used to do throwing guys under the bus.

Don't get why so many people are so salty talking about it, not like the teams play has given us anything good to talk about.

Nobody is salty, you are just beating a dead horse and the topic is almost two weeks old at this point. Moving on is important.

Plus you cannot compare anything that Hank did in the past to Tony D. Hank had the street cred to say things like that, Tony does not.
