1) nonis - first time GM.
2) MG - first time GM. first time working for a team.
3) JB - first time GM.

is a person who is trying to get his first job as a gm more open to hearing from the team owner? does the team owner exploit that dynamic?

Obviously not a recipe for success. Each scenario is surely unique though, as it really depends on the state of the franchise when they take over. Who’s the last rookie GM to win a Stanley Cup? Chiarelli?

i'm too lazy to look it up but wasn't burkie fired (technically had his contract expire and not renewed) by steve bellinger (was that his name?) president under mccaw? i know there was a season or two overlap where mccaw and FA were partners so technically you'd be correct.

i just don't think FA had any say at that point.

in any event, a string of first time GMs is a red flag.

JB is and was a long time assistant GM WHO WAS IN HIGH DEMAND WHEN The Canucks came calling.

He was and still is a great assistant GM.... but he needs someone to oversee his moves
