Hawks were on their heels there but kudos for their shutout, with four rookie defensemen and a rookie goalie as well. I know it was Detroit, but the Wings were bringing it. Stan doesn’t even know how to tank, we need Chiarelli.

Thanks Theo. I don’t see Strome and Nylander here long term, they just don’t fit the new culture in my opinion. Strome maybe if he gets stronger, because he’s not getting faster.

Yes...agreed.
I havent been around in a while on these boards...hope all are well. So...anyone else starting to agree with my position that the rebuild is over? Remember when I was saying that and most thought i was an idiot? Cheers to another W

I didn't see it all coming together this quickly, i thought we were still a few pieces short....but now after seeing:

A. how good Suter/Hagel/Kurashev/Mitchell/Beaudin/Boqvist/Lankinen are

B. how well DeBrincat has bounced back

C. how good Kubalik still is(wasn't a flash in the pan)

D. how well other non-rookie new faces are fitting in(Janmark, Soderberg)

....its hard to ignore. Its time to change the mindset. The outlook is different, and we're much improved. Add Dach to all of this and as long as Kane keeps playing like Kane we're gonna be a threat to contend again very soon...

Holy crap, the Hawks are terrible at clearing their own zone. Zadorov is not good at this hockey thing. A couple clears here and there would make life easier for Lankinen and Subban. That being said, they do a great job of collapsing on the net and not giving up the greasy ones often. Still hate the 11/7 lineup. I think it kills the offense without helping the defense. Colliton needs to start rotating the vets out now that Boqvist is back.

OTOH, Suter is the real deal. He was all over the Detroit net. Love the way that kid plays. Kurashev's move was highlight reel. Carpenter with a decent game coming off COVID.

DET has been rebuilding for a decade and they're still god awful. Zero progress made. Wtf is going on over there?

Now watch them go and get the first goal

Kurashev is right up there with Suter and Janmark in terms of possessing top 6 caliber skill sets. This trio has literally saved our season at the forward position. Hagel too. You can say those 4,with a pinch of Soderberg here or there, have changed the complexion of our entire forward lineup for the foreseeable future. For the better. Emphatically. Janmark might not stay like the others, but we'll see.

See how it goes when we stop playing Detroit and play Vegas.

That wouldn’t occur unless both meet in the semi finals

It went pretty well when we played Carolina and Dallas 4 in a row. Or do they not count?

I'm as happy as anyone that the Hawks are suddenly competent this year...but man, I'm nowhere near ready to say anything close to that. This was Detroit. They suck and we didn't exactly wipe the floor with them. Let's see what happens when we see Bolts and Panthers again.

So this new Russian phenom is interested in signing with the Hawks or Wings. He can only sign an ELC. I guess the only negotiating points are the amounts of type A and type B bonuses. If both teams max out on those, it’s going to come down to which franchise he is most comfortable with. Wings have the history of Russian players and Yzerman who played with them. Hawks have had more success this past decade and the fact that Panarin excelled with Kane. Both teams rebuilding but the Hawks are further ahead in that. Who will he choose?
- boilermaker100

He’ll sign with the Wings, of course. Stan will get out-maneuvered yet again and lose out on another key European free agent.

What's with you people that cherry pick who you wanna see us play well against?

First of all, you're making it sound like this one victory tonight over the Red Wings is the reason why I think the way I do about our team's future. So that right there is just flat out wrong.

We played very well 4 in a row against Canes and Stars. We've gone 7-1-1 in our past 9. We won a playoff series last year and just added A LOT of additional young talent.

Of course we aren't contending this season, but starting next season and beyond its definitely possible. Especially 2022/2023(2 years from now).

I would like them to play well against everyone. It's just such a small sample size man.

And please, you have to expect people are going to call you out for the CUP CONTENDER MINDSET SHIFT post after playing Detroit! We have to.

Carolina had guys coming back and guys out. Dallas I believe is getting up there in age? It didn't go well against Tampa and Florida. Yes I agree we are improved since then but we really don't know how good this division is playing it the entire season. We only know where we fit in this group of teams.

Powers reported that rumour is false, the Hawks haven’t offered the KHL player a contract and likely won’t. There’s concerns about his size and that the Hawks are close to the 50 contract limit (48) and want flexibility at the end of the season.

Dallas minus Seguin and Radulov. They had a rookie in net whom played well. Dallas top two goaltenders were out.

When you play Vegas you cannot have Strome playing.. Unless he becomes a different player which he still falls short. We're making strides forward.
