Myers can play the right side with Provorov. Sanhiem can also play the right side and form a pair with Ekholm. - MJL
Cool. And then 1 of those 4 guys gets picked by Seattle. Unless the plan is to give up premium assets to acquire Ekholm...and then give up more assets to Seattle to pick someone else. Not happening. But I'm not a source. |

Yes, I agree, the expansion draft is a major factor. I was just illustrating that Ekholm being a LH defenseman wasn't a deal breaker. |

the pens have something like 38 defensemen with 35 of them being LD. why do they want another? When Dumolin comes off of IR, they will have:
Dumo age 29 at $4.1M until 2023
Matheson age 26 at $4.875M until 2026
Pettersson age 24 at $4M until 2025
PO Joseph on his ELC at $833k until 2022
Why would they want Ekholm at age 30 at 3.75M? Because he is only signed until 2022? If they want to make the $$ work, can they trade either Dumo (4.1) or Pettersson (4) and mccann (2.95) and Jankowski (700k) for Ekholm (3.75) and granlund (3.75)? With no one retaining salary? thats 7.65M for 7.5M. They (Preds) can bury jankowski in the minors. Preds only have 4 D and 9 forwards signed after this season. mccann is only 24 and can play center or wing. has played well with sid with some success and right now plays primarily on the 3rd line. 2nd PP unit.

Penguins? What the heck do they have to offer? Another first rounder? They have one of the poorest farm system in the league. In 3-4 years, when Sid, Malkin and the rest are done, they will be horrible.
I can see another bankruptcy and a “lottery win” coming their way. |

Then they could only protect 4 forwards rather than 7, and risk losing someone just as good up front. He'd be great to have, but better after the ED. |

If Ekholm is available, every GM in the league who needs a D-man and can fit him in should be lining up around the block to at least take a crack at getting him. He's one of the last guys I want to see leave the team, but I understand that to fix the mess in Nashville, you'll have to give up something of value to get anything of value. Poile should be demanding the moon for him, but judging for DP's track record lately, he'll probably trade Ekholm and the Preds next two 1st Round Picks for a bubble defensemen and two prospects nobody's ever heard of. Whoever gets him is going to love him though. - Squatchy
Your fix is to fire you trash coach. |

There is a reason why I never even bothered suggesting that. Go look which forwards would then be exposed. Haha. |

Hayes Giroux TK and Couterier would be the 4 imo. I do not know if Patrick has to be protected. If he does then that would change my thought process in protecting 7 fwd.
So you leave Oscar Jake JVR unprotected. Not the end of the world to lose one. I prefer to leave Jake unprotected anyway. |

First move is to get rid of Poile. I don't want Poile making any of these rebuild moves.
