Now that Rico cleared is there a trade between us on DeAngelo and Rico... with us retaining significant salary... say 30% or so.

The problem with Rico is the length of years left on his contract. Having a guy on the roster with a NTC with all the contracts we will have to extend in the future is just not good business. It would have to be 50% retained.

I think with what has transpired here that 50% is probably doable.

What Eakins and Murray thought with the scratch and waivers... hell I'll never know... Rico did just lead us in goals last yr with 26 ...Makes good smart plays and doesn't take dumb penalties... I don't know maybe he's just too well rounded of a player for our management dumbfks.

Have at it all. I am not wading in yet. But Laf is pretty much a non-starter:

It has to start with a goalie, Shesterkin... since Sabres can't find one to save their life. Then 3 players off the current roster with term and upside left.

Chytil / K'Andre Miller / Buch is what I tell JD it would take and nothing less. Or forget it.

Not happening. The Rangers would have to give up Laf and a poop ton of other good parts. Yeah Eichel would be awesome, but it would deplete the team of its best young players. I don't see a match.

I'm fine with bringing in anyone who will help our center depth, but it can't be at the expense of the rest of the team

Panarin, LAF, Kakko, Miller, Fox, Shesty are pretty much the only untouchables we have. Id like to retain Lindgren as he is the perfect pair to Fox but hes not untouchable.

Unfortunately, were stuck with Kreider and Trouba.

Everyone else, all the prospects and picks are in play.

I wouldn’t be willing to give up what it would cost to get Eichel. Hard pass unless they were willing to take picks and prospects and maybe a few middle 6 guys which we all know isn’t happening. Something I would consider that I doubt BUF does;

2022 1st
2023 1st

No one wants TonyD, we will end up having to buy him out. Zack Jones is who GMs would go after.

There is a strong argument to be made for bringing in Eichel. However, LaFranchise simply won't be part of that trade.

Its going to be a substantial cost: Strome and Buch to make the cap $$ work, 2 First round picks ( with at least one unprotected ) plus Kravtsov and any single one of our top defense prospects not in the NHL. Thats 6 total pieces and I realize that Sabres will STILL feel shortchanged. However, Buffalo has to realize they are NEVER going to get equal value in a deal like this and I am not sure there is another team that could beat that offer and has cap space to bring in a $10 mill/year player.

The good news for the Rangers: Eichel although a different type of player is at least as good as Zibby, is 4 years younger, has NO concussion or COVID history and is signed for the next 5 years when he will be all of 29 years old.
Eichel becomes our No. 1 center, Mika No. 2 for a year to build up his trade value, Chtyil is No. 3 until Zibby gets traded --- that will be a vast improvement over what we currently have.

Not a big Brooks fan either, but like he said, if Zib doesn't get it going, NYR has a big decision to make.
