They are very different players in terms of style. But imo Josh Anderson is an all around better player than Nylander, just far far more complete and consistent.
- fifty__missions

They can both be game breakers in different ways. Probably the best part of Anderson's game is that heavy physicality is transferrable to any type of game. It can help contribute to the cycle, it can help driving to the net, it can help in breaking through a trap. It can also give an emotional bounce to your team. With Nylander, you get (generally) smart puck movement, good zone exits and entries, and an offensive presence and shot that can be a game breaker in its own way.

Traditionally bang and crash power forwards like Anderson start to break down around 29-30 (look at Lucic, Bertuzzi, but there are other examples of guys like Jamie Benn who are still doing well; or Backes who didn't really get "bad" until around 32). It's a roll of the dice; If Anderson maintains his level of play until 30, then most of this contract will be beneficial, but the last year or two could be bad.

Nylander's style is less likely to erode as he plays, but it's not going to have the same impact.

I still think that at the end of the year after the expansion draft Nylander will end up having to be moved for cap space considerations, whether the return is a cheaper top-4 D, prospects, picks, or a package of cheaper useful players.

It would be fun to see Simmonds punch the sh!t out of Anderson like he did with that other knucklehead Chiarot. He had everybody mad at him last night.

I also agree. They need a goalie and rielly resigned. Plus Hyman. Something has to give. I dont know if you will replace holl for 2 million.

I also think Nylander will be moved at some point, but doubt very much that it will be for a "bunch of cheaper useful players" That is not what is needed. To win a trade I would think you need to receive the best player in the trade. Leafs have boatloads of bottom six types, none needed. A quality RHD ok, a top six LW that hits ok, a handful of giraffes - no thanks waste of time. As far as tougher players go I agree they break down sooner, Wendel was in that group. They can be game changers but it also depends on how the games are called and enforced at the time. If a peckerhead like Tkachuk cross-checks Matthews 20 times and gets away with it, then it is considered responsible tough hockey. If he is called for a penalty and the Leafs score a PP goal then he is a talentless idiot that can only hope to even the lack of talent by thuggery.

Do you think Leafs management is as freaked out about the state of the team as this thread is right now?

Henry II about Thomas Becket who I don’t believe was a Swede or played hockey but was a priest put to death. Hmmm

It's the best state of affairs for the Leafs by far since 1967, and some fans are seemingly unable to feel any exuberance or enjoyment in it and continue on with hand-wringing without missing a beat. It's understandable. The PTSD has frozen all joy and hope inside of them.

I wouldn’t say trolls but they might be a bit over invested in some arcane narrative that has become more important than the success of the team

Before the season started most of us were considered Dubas wives because we thought his off-season moves were pretty good.

Isn’t it funny that that narrative disappeared?

So the PTSD fears are real. A two game loss streak had me doing extra laundry. I saw yesterday’s game as a huge opportunity for the fold to start and the two breakaway goals as Jake Gardner time. The fact that they pulled it back and reasserted themselves gave me great confidence until the next crisis.

I was talking to my kid about what happens if DONT JINX IT and he said he’s buying a hazmat suit and 7 masks and partying hard.

How often do you think Bergevin considers just beating up Dubas until he trades him Matthews and Marner?
