I love it when you get technical. The writing on the rest was too small when 8 checked and I knew the series Long Strange Trip. Have you seen the series?

Maybe a little, not 100%

What exactly is the basis for the narrative that the Northern Division is (by far) the weakest division in hockey?

Other than the fact that the Leafs are leading it, of course.

A little weak and the Leafs are a powerhouse , especially with no injuries to key players yet....

I'd rather just get a 2nd rounder for him, which Dubas could then flip for two 3rd round picks.

An honest assessment? They are still a good team, but cruising through Vancouver probably changed their perspective of proper work ethic. Things don't come that easily at the NHL, and 5 games against a team who is beyond floundering probably didn't help. That said, Montreal's style of play seems to be anathema to Vancouver's porous defense. Vancouver has actually performed adequately against everyone other than Toronto and Montreal (their record is 7-5-2 (3 wins against Ottawa)). They're young centres are still a problem, and Price hasn't been consistent. I do have a question about Weber that perhaps you would've seen more than I have: Is he doing ok? He's looked good when I've seen him, although a couple of times he's been drawn out of position in the pursuit of a hit (like Phaneuf was prone to do) , and he is the only minus player on the Habs. Is it a product of poor decisions, or just a product of playing so many minutes against top competition?

On the Habs, the young centres haven't found their game against not Vancouver - Suzuki had a great start in his first 10 games, he had a goal and 3 assists against non-Vancouver teams (2G/5A against Van), but has only 2 assists in his last 7 games.

Kotkaniemi has been worse with 1G, 2A in 12 games against not Vancouver - but he has a goal and 4 assists against Vancouver.

The most stark is Toffoli who has 8G and 3A in 5 games against Vancouver. He has next level rage about not being resigned apparently. But he's still on pace for a 20G season against other competition, which is where you'd expect him to be.

Anderson has obviously been a revelation. He's been a physical douchebag who is on pace for 40 goals against not Vancouver. You couldn't ask for much more elevation in his game.

Petry is even having a career year. I think he was looking at around a 50+ point pace against not Vancouver. His defense doesn't look any worse - he's always had some holes in his game - offensive styles do that - but he's been very good this year.

Objectively, I'm also a big fan of Edmundson's game. He's been tough to play against and done his job very well.

After just 17 games, which is premature, I think the Habs clearly win the Domi trade, I think they're better for it, but they are still weak / immature down the middle, and Price has not been consistently good in net either.

Personally, I still think they're a top-4 team in the division after initially thinking they were a bubble team.

I think that's a fair assessment. We talked about this before the season began, Habs will go as far as their young centre can take them. Right now, both KK and Suzuki are in a little slump and it showed. Although I keep my faith in both of them in the long run.

As for Weber, I think he's been mostly bad against Toronto. Is it him focusing too much on Matthews (the Marner goal last game was a prime example of him going for a hit and losing position) or is it how Chiarot's been considerably worse than he was last year and he's also suffering from it?

Hell even Petry, after a glorious start, has been making mental mistakes these last few games (Toronto's 2nd goal being a prime example).

Bottom line, there is a very fine line between success and failure in the NHL, so it looks like everything is going wrong but a few tweaks here and there would make a world of difference.

Hopefully they fix them before the damage is too severe.

I guess the Habs are back to sucking.

It was a good ride.

They'll be Ok, they don't play the Leafs again till the last couple of weeks in the season and according to Jack Todd (brilliant unbiased Gazette reporter) the only reason the Habs lost was due to officiating and that called backed goal. He inferred that the Leafs management used their influence to have the goal overturned. The loss had nothing to do with Matthews-Marner and Jumbo dominating, rather the poor officiating. I'm wondering what that genius thought about this.

7-0 Leafs, Willy hat trick, Matthews 2, Marner, Boyd. Muzzin dumps a supa scoop of sand into Tkupchuk's vajajay, and he throws his toys out the tram.

Good idea, use Nylander and Kerfoot to get Bob.

Trade Marner for John Carlson so we have that elusive RHD

Well you need to make assumptions about the league as a whole, things we know to be true in spite of fact that there are no inter-divisional games.

1. Lightening are best team in league
2. Panthers suck again
3. Chicago is really bad
4. This might be the Islander’s year
5. Leafs can beat some easy teams but will fold against real teams

Do some fancy extrapolations - weak division
