I just hope Tarasenko comes back in decent form

Yup. That's the gamble for sure.

Nope.

I think I’ll take the gamble, come playoff time if prefer Tarasenko over Suzuki

Plus the Habs are playing the Leafs 3 out of their last 4 games. So he won’t score.

Why not bring Robertson up to play with Willie and JT for a game or two. Give them both a jolt.
- Canada Cup

I'd like to see more of Robertson's game too. I'd just like to see JT freed from Nylander. On the Island he was used to elevating the games of more workmanlike players. It's not working right now with JT-Nylander. Obviously.

Unfortunately, the issue is more of a Tavares problem than a Nylander issue. In the games I have watched, Tavares and Kerfoot seem to be suffering from vertigo. Neither seems stable or quick on their skates and Tavares seems like he has an untapped blade. He cant take a pass, make a pass, or shoot with any accuracy and strength. The Leafs knew they were getting a below average player in Kerfoot, but I do not think they expected Tavares to decline so quickly. For the Leafs sake I hope there is an unreported injury hampering Tavares play.

It is unfortunate that Nylander suffers the wrath of fans, but neither Mikheyev nor Tavares is in position to accepts a pass from Nylander when he drives the zone. The opponents are aware and have been double teaming Nylander which is forcing poor percentage plays, unfavorable drops and near impossible shots from poor angles.

With Robertson coming off a significant injury, seems more likely that Galchenyuk will get a shot - maybe replace Vesey (who hasn't done much). With the Leafs playing a goon truculent team like Calgary, maybe they get Sabourin to play four minutes.

While Galchenyuk may get a shot, I suspect the Leafs will simply let Calgary truculent themselves to the penalty box numerous times each night. With Tkachuk throwing a tantrum every fourth or fifth game, the few refs in the north division have had enough of Calgary's buffoonery.

I don't think Keefe would agree with your assessment. It was Nylander's ass stapled to the bench in the third period last night, not JT. Or Kerfoot, for that matter.

Nicholson could have done that courtroom scene a few times to get his shots and then gone home, but he stayed and did it forcall the reaction shots for every take, all day, and did it the same every time.

Tavares PPG the last few years.
2015 .9
2016 .86
2017 1.02
2018 1.07
2019 .95
2020 .9

While not being great. Tavares PPG this year is not terrible. I have not problem seeing things get shaken up a bit, but his production has not been horrible. He has looked pretty bad though.

I hope so, because if you take penalties against the Leafs right now, you will lose.

Not too sure about some of this, Nylander isn’t helping himself with his own play.

At the end of the day it is about work ethic and Nylander right now he doesn’t work hard enough period. I think he needs to sit out a game or 2 .

It is a bit of a stretch to refer to Nylander as benched. He is not a defensive juggernaut and is suited to second line duty. He missed a shift or two at the end of the game, which happens regularly to defensively weak players in the final minutes of a close game. Yet the shills at Sportsnet reported it as a benching. Nylander played exactly 19 fewer seconds than one of the top line players. Hardly a benching. I suggest referencing stats before quoting many of the maroons that provide color for Sportsnet's HNIC telecasts.

Tavares is fighting the puck right now. Happens. He is too good for this to last too much longer. He is skating well. I think his decline is a bit overstated.

Nylander should be benched at the end of tight game. He is not strong defensively. His offensive game is suffering a bit because of Tavares right now. Maybe they just do not mesh.

How good is it that the Leafs are still winning games while Tavares is finding his game? Just think how much better the Leafs will be when Tavares is Tavares again.
