And maybe take a gamble and get a couple young guys signed longer term on "cheaper" deals. Like that MacKinnon contract. Avs have him on the cheap for a few more years still.
- bhawks2241

I get the MacKinnon contract is great, but at the time he signed it, his best year (out of his three years in the league) was 63 points in 82 games. Good, but not great.

His first year at that contract number was 53 points, then he just exploded for 97, 99 and 93 last year in a shortened season. I think ADB's contract is right about where it should be. Hopefully, like you said, they find more good young players and sign them before they explode.

When is the trade deadline for the nhl?
- Scott1977

April 12th. There's been a lot of speculation that the Canadian teams that want help will make trades earlier to account for the 14 day quarantine period to enter Canada from the USA.

It doesn't seem.possible that Toronto has such a good record - like 14-3-1...They are just very good and deep at forward and just better than some of the team's they are playing multiple times. I don't see their blueline really MAYBE slightly better than last year. Coaching, team attitude about defense?

Whom.is your pick to win the goal scoring title? Mathews, Pasternak, McDavid, Ovechkin? Not Tofilli.

This is the part that terrifies me about Shaw. No idea if/when the symptoms can or will come back:

Colliton on Strome's concussion: "He got hit a few games ago. He didn't feel anything, symptoms-wise. We were checking on him and he felt good. But these symptoms are sometimes late-arriving and he hasn't felt as good the last little while."

This is one area where Colliton is an incredible asset. Having gone through this as a player, he can relate to wanting to get back as soon as possible, but also weighing the risks.

Hawks should come to the realization that Shaw should no longer be in the lineup. Even if he gets medically cleared and wants to return, the Hawks should protect him from himself. Honor his contract by all means but do not allow him back on the ice. If or when he gets off IR and if cleared and back on the roster, scratching him for games takes up a roster spot unfortunately. Better alternative is to waive him, send him to Rockford and scratch him in their games. Nobody will claim him and at least the Hawks get about 1M in cap relief by sending him down.

Toronto is having a good year, but to be honest that North Division isn't very good. Montreal coming back to earth after their hot start, and the rest of the teams are mediocre. Remember that in the old division lineup, the Leafs would be up against Boston and TB.

Not Panarin either since he's in witness protection. How about Kaner? Seems like he's putting up 2 or 3 PPG lately.

Many are unaware that the US upset of the Soviets was the semi-final game. US still had not to suffer a let down and had to beat Finland, I believe, in the gold medal game.... which they did.

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but if I recall correctly - like Loyola beating Cincinnati in 1963 - the Miracle on Ice wasn’t broadcast live - it was played in the late afternoon, and not sent out through the ether until later that nite.

I could see another Hawks vs Kings WCF in say 3-4 years. The way both teams are trending with the young talent. LA has some serious talent coming up that’s gonna be slowly adding up and transforming their roster/lineup for the better(it’s already started this season you can see the early signs). We’re probably a year ahead of where they are, but they are COMING.

There’s a legit chance that the 2 teams that dominated the West a decade ago will be right back at it. How epic would that be, especially if it includes a veteran Kopitar/Doughty vs Kane/Keith.

Kings pipeline of young players is miles ahead of the Hawks. Not even close

Byfield, Turcotte, Peterson, Anderson, Anderson-Dolan, Kaliyev, Bjonfort, Vilardi, Thomas, Fergamo. Hawks are 3 to 4 solid drafts behind.

True, but the Hawks have done a much better job with EU FA's. In general, I believe you are right in saying the Kings have more (and theoretically better) prospect talent. However, other means of player acquisition cannot be discounted.

Remains to be seen how deep, how good Blackhawk dmen prospects turn out. Mitchell, Boqvist, Beaudin, Carlsson, Kalynuk, Kaiser, Vlasic, Rogula. Omitting Kyrs and Galvas whom are long ways away and questionable anyway.

Maybe "Stud" is too ambiguous. I see they have a wealth of defensive players now, make a move for a good player to set us up for next year. Just throwing this out there but Brady Tkachuk is a RFA next year. Maybe trade for him or sign him to an offer sheet.
- snakeyes0007

Jokiharju who was already playing in the NHL got us Nylander. Assuming Stan didn't turn down a better offer they take negotiating classes where he got his MBA this is what you can expect trading prospects.

Dcat is better this year but he isn't an elite or near elite puck carrier. Neither is Kubalik (doesn't have the skating either).

I am talking about the elite or near elite guys that can flip the ice just by carrying the puck themselves. Some nights teams are just off with the passing. Need the type of forward that can take over on their own. Hawks only have 1 right now.

In the cup years Hawks had Kane, Toews, Hossa, Saad (to an extent), and Sharp (not the older slow version). When needed any of them could carry the puck in with speed. Guys that opposing D had to respect and fear getting burned/turnstiled by.

Miles? I don’t see it that way. They definitely have more top end talent in the pipeline but overall it’s closer than you make it seem when u consider who the Hawks have already established, and none of LAs prospects are guys that you’d call a lock to be instant impact NHLers. They’re not rushing anyone along either.

The line of Grundstrum-JAD-Moore looks very impressive. Vilardi has been pretty good too thus far. I like that Toby Bjorngfot but I only saw one game. Adrian Kempe is established and still just 24, but only has 113 pts in 272 career games thus far...And u can’t assume the others that havnt debuted yet will all pan out.

Whereas with the Hawks you already have DeBrincat(an established 30-40 goal scorer) and Kubalik(30 goals last season and already improved his PPG so far this season) that are both still young, and you can arguably add Dach in this category(established NHLers) as well because of how good he looked as a rookie...

Now all of a sudden you add Suter, Kurashev, and this kid Hagel comes flying in out of nowhere(at least I didn’t see him being this good)...and that doesn’t even cover any of our young defenseman or Lankinen....

It’s close. We’ll know a lot more in a couple years when these Kings kids start cracking the NHL. And the Hawks also still have plenty of room to grow.

"OH no," Ron Santo is reknown for the heart wrenching drop of a fly ball which subsequently led to Milwaukee Brewers overtaking the beloved Cubbies that day. The loss foreshadowed bowing out of a pennant chase...... back in Sammy Sosa's heyday.

Well it is painful too seeing Rockford remain winless this.season. I have noticed a very young defense with some members should be in the ECHL.

Long season within short season for them. Let Kalynuk play there: he will help
