yeah I know everytime something happens people love to yell about cancel culture but I just don't see this incident as going down that same path - jimbro83
it's all reactionary responses from people who for some reason seem to desperately want this to be the boogeyman (cancel culture) just so they can decry it in the same breath. Then the "i was just making a jokey joke so chill out" defense is employed. I haven't seen a single reaction on the internet that called for his head. Some people contort these situations in their head to give them a reason to feel outrage when it isnt warranted. Rant over |

He’s not a conservative American politician or an unliked celebrity, so the chances of him being victim to the cancel culture is slim. Besides, everyone knows the story is rubbish.
What he has too worry about is being cancelled period. I hope someone checks his tea before he drinks it. What’s even more troubling, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility, that they could try to hurt him, and no one will do a damn thing about it if it happened. |

I am not trying to be a Richard here (as tough as it is for someone like me) but you seem to be reluctant to just come out and say that this is being handled fairly. Can you show me something that supports your hesitance? Has anyone written anything on twitter, in an article, on here, anywhere about this incident that makes you feel this way? Typically when the mob sharpens its knives it happens microseconds after the incident or accusation in question comes to light. It's been a few days already and everyone, including the team (who has the second most to lose behind panarin), seems to be showing support (obviously only up until the point that any real evidence against him comes out, which we all agree is extremely unlikely) |

Because hockey is in not popular. Not a good scalp to get.
In all seriousness, I agree the scumbag cancel people have stayed away from this, and see no evidence it will start. |

it's a double edged sword. are there people whose past actions come to light and probably deserve to be ostracized for it when it does? Sure. Are there too many cases of people being "cancelled" unfairly and unnecessarily? Most probably. Does the latter "cancel" (for lack of a better term) the former? I don't think so. Can't just say that as a society we are never going to "cancel" a person no matter how much evidence or how egregious the behavior was because then that implies acceptance of anything. It's a fine line that is never going to be perfectly balanced since people in general are stupid and reactionary.
All of that is to say that the above has literally nothing to do with what is happening with Panarin right now
EDIT: The whole double edged sword saying got me thinking.... Why was there ever a single edged sword? Seems like you're 50% less efficient |

I think you may be miss-interpreting my posts. I am not seeking or looking for anything. My initial post was merely a jab at cancel culture, not attaching it factually to Panarin's situation. Me saying "me hopes not" is literally saying I hope none of the mob tags onto it at all, at any time. I was not engaging in a debate. That's why I said I do not know the details or much about the situation. I was being playful. I definitely do not ascribe to reactionary thinking and judgement. I think we are on the same page in the end. |

A single edge sword might have much more strength because of thickness of the spine, where a double edged sword while deadlier and easier to wield might not have the same strength. I watch too much Forged in Fire. |

So you detest cancel culture and found this situation as something you could use to talk about it, even though you agree that it is not remotely applicable here
this is not an endorsement or condemnation by me of cancel culture. this is me trying to follow the logic |

I honestly have no clue. But Forged in Fire is awesome. Pretty amazing what people can do with metal. Especially when you think back about how they made swords, knives, axes.. etc and only used coals and a hammer. No presses, propane forges |

Mostly, dislike extreme reactionary responses without reason. Currently, coined cancel culture.
And yes, mostly to joke on cancel culture, not applying to Panarin.
I just would hate if it got applied.
