There are UFAs that will be priced in the 3 mil range that are younger .Montour ,Bogasian , Staal Hjalmarsson Niskanen .

Hey I'm all for replacing him, that said, it's not as easy as just saying I'll take this guy or that guy in free agency, where you tend to overpay. That's a two-way street. If Benning waits too long he runs the risk of losing Edler, unlikely as he doesn't want to play anywhere else, and or losing out on free agency.

Bogosian is a bottom pairing guy at best, Niskanen and Hjalmarsson are both going to be 34, Staal is no longer an NHL player(and is 34)

Why would you dump Edler for a guy who is 1 year younger and inferior at hockey?

I think JB is banking hard on Juolevi becoming that guy. Edler probably goes to 1 year contracts from here on until either OJ grows into that role, or they make a trade/signing to replace Edler.
- NorthNuck

That would be optimal. I think Edler signs another one year contract around 4 million as we're just not there yet to replace him. Unless someone in free agency really wants to play in Vancouver?

I agree. I am all for bringing him back too if it is a one year 2 mil contract. Anything over that and I would move on.

Way to low, he's still a 4-5 million dollar guy on a one year deal.

Gallant doesn't suck, that's a stupid homer Canuck statement. He's a good coach.

Breakfast drinking appears to be a new trend.

Sounds about right. I don't think there's anyone in free agency that makes sense as a fit to replace him this year.

Edler is close to two years older than Staal. I was throwing names out there only . If Edler wants 4 mil and Staal wants 1 mil then welcome aboard Staal.

Just because Edler is the best Dman (which he is not) it doesn't mean he is a good Dman.

I like a little Carolans Irish Cream in my coffee on occasion in the morning as well, but to say Gallant isn't a good coach is pure nonsense.

It also doesn't mean to get a worse defenseman for cheaper. We have ELC's that are better to use than Staal or BoGo.

Elliotte reporting Coyotes could be interested in Tanner Pearson if he becomes available.

I find it strange that you want to make the team worse in the name of saving money.

How is that a homer statement? I’m not advocating we keep Green. Gallant has been tossed in the trash by multiple teams and is having trouble getting a job. Is that bad luck? Does he deserve better? Perhaps he hasn’t been popular with his players and employers

Lefty said Staal was playing meaningful minutes for Detroit this year. Unfortunately I don't get to see many games outside the North division.

I know Bogasian is playing meaningful minutes at 1 mil a year . Chara is playing meaningful minutes for 800 K

If Edler is the glue holding your D together then I suggest you draft as high as you possibly can
