But who? Ruhwedel? Like what significant trade can be caused by claiming Friedman? - Rinosaur
I know Letang was out and I haven't heard anything on him coming back.
Friedman was drafted by Hextall in Philly. He has been a solid Dman on the Phantoms... but this year he is on a one way contract.
We'd have to waiver him to go on the taxi squad, right? I agree that this looks like a precursor... |

My buddy took a pretty cool sports analytics class at U of Chicago Booth as an elective last year. His proff is big into the Sloan scene and got a handful of FO executives to come in for guest lectures. The gist of what one NFL guy said is that for the most part, GMs/Coaches, etc... have a pretty good grasp of what would be a good idea or not, but the incentive of job security often leads them to make decisions they know have a high likelihood of blowing up. If you do something that goes against common convention and it doesn’t work, your ass is on the chopping block, but if you operate within common convention, you get a lot more roso. The example he used was going for it on 4th down in football. Statistically, you should always go for it on 4th down if you’re within 2 yards of the first down marker regardless of where you are on the field, but coaches don’t do that because it’s not seen as a common practice and if they lose a big game on a 4th down call on their own side of the field, they lose job security. I think the dudes direct quote when giving the talk was “Yeah i knew I should have done this instead of that, but I also didn’t want to deal with packing up my family and moving if it didn’t work out.”
That’s why GM’s give out objectively poopty contracts. No one has the job security to make future-centric move indefinitely. When you have Eichel and just drafted Dahlen, you need to look like you’re keeping up with the arms race, and in Buffalo’s case that meant trading for Jeff Skinner. That part worked, but the optics of letting Skinner walk was too much for Bots to handle. Of course he got canned anyways so it didn’t matter. - Victoro311
Nice! There are some pretty cool programs out there now. I recently finished 3 separate courses all hockey related obviously. Finished my executive MBA in hockey management from Athabasca University. Kinda funny because I got to meet Brian Burke there a few months back which was pretty cool and have been able to keep in contact with him. I’ve sent texts (obviously jokingly) asking for the inside details on the pens haha obviously got no info I wanted back. (Burke started the entire program with a Ritch Winter) There is so many different angles to everything it’s insane. Hopefully in March sometime I will be doing some scouting assignments with any luck if these covid restrictions fuuck off haha But like you were saying they go over literally everything you can think of to put you in the proper direction of what you “should” do. Was pretty cool to see examples of how extremely important scouting still is today and mixing it with analytics to make your scouting targets easier to find and easier to predict when you only have a 3 games sample to watch said player. |

Yeah it doesn't make sense for the current roster. The GM drafted him and knows him which normally I like. But he'd be taking Ruhwedel's spot or best case out playing Ceci. Neither really needed replaced. Roster crunch coming, can't keep 10 healthy defensemen on the roster. |

Just read an article about Letang getting injured. Also there was a report that Penguins said Friedman should be good to play on Thursday.

Didn’t know you were a scout yourself, I thought your buddy was the scout. That’s pretty cool man. Always fun being in the room. How’s Burke in real life? Seems like a huge Richard. |

I guess in the 3rd. He played in OT, but some say maybe he was signed as insurance. Some believe Weber might get sent to WBS (just speculation though). |

Keep Lafferty on the 4th line. I know some of you think he's trash but I think he's a perfect 4th liner.
He looked good with Tanev and Blueger last night. He will do well with some better linemates than bleeping Jankowski and Sceviour. |

Weber isn’t an NHL player so if the plan is just to get a different look from Weber on a guy that might be better I get that. |

Definitely not a scout yet, just starting out and gonna be doing some scouting assignments (unpaid) and then going from there but hoping things work out. My buddy is a NHL scout and the one that helped pushed me into it and with him being where he is its helped me a ton so far.
hahaha I expected the same thing from Burke but hes actually quite funny in person. Some of his stories he told us are fuccking priceless. But there is no sugar coating things it seems with him as youd probably expect and just says exactly what he thinks. Hes pretty much done everything you can do in hockey and at the highest level in the world which is pretty crazy to think about. Can definitely tell why he has unlimited connections in the hockey world as hes willing to help literally anybody learn and succeed that puts in the effort. To see him be a huge or main part in opening up a class dedicated to this specific field is pretty cool to see from someone that high up. I think that alone says a lot about him to me.

There’s cool ass people that also happen to be takesman, and then there’s bumholes with hot takes. I’d love to get a beer with Max Kellerman. I don’t think I’d last two sips with Mark Madden. Always thought Burke seemed more of the latter. |

Hit the point of the season where the Penguins and Sixers schedule have magically synced up. Hate not having a game on every night, and double hate trying to watch two games at once. - Victoro311
Imagine intentionally watching that woke garbage excuse of a sport. |

Sixers’ GM is the one who got fined for speaking out against China. We’re bringing down the establishment. |

I think it depends on how Madden is out of character. I've heard that's all a schtick which would make sense considering he drives ratings through the roof in Pittsburgh and most yinzer fans are dumb enough to blindly follow him and his vague ass opinions.
If he is the smug (frank) he is on the radio, then yeah I'm out.
But I've always thought Burke had some personality when in interviews. |

Too bad the sixers have no impact on the league since they aren’t one of the three teams that matter. |

We pissed off the commissioner enough to cause lottery reform and have our old GM ousted and replaced by a league stooge, so we don’t don’t matter. |

Between Madden and Rossi, I don't think Yohe is a good judge of character. |

I spoke with Madden at a bar in Sewickley. He was doing some promotion with the Flyer t-shirt he sells for charity. He is very approachable, he does like to talk but he will listen. When he found out I lived in Wampum all he wanted to talk about was Sleepy Allen (RIP). The only problem was so many people want a piece of him we didn't talk long.
No, he is nothing like his radio persona.
