Yep.. But when there's a guy standing all alone in front of the net like that you don't just stand there behind him. Its like he has no defensive instincts. He barely even tried.
- Tanooki

well from what I can tell and have read on it, he did come down from where he was supposed to be because he saw that engvall moved off his man.

it kinda a no win, if he moves all the way down leaving his man exposed its his ass when the puck goes to that player instead.

If we win the Stanley Cup, I will commission an artist to draw this guy in a Leafs jersey, hoisting the Stanley Cup:

It's not like Willy was facing the defenseman and couldn't see the play developing.. I like Nylander a lot, but that goal against was partially his fault.

Once he saw that Engvall and the defense was out of position, he should have been quicker to react.

- PatC80

Once Engvall screwed up, it made it Willie's fault.

Or something like that.

yup!

I'm sure the coach gonna dissect that play and show in detail what went wrong and how it should've been executed perfectly. A few things went a bit wrong - just like what happens on most goals in hockey

In other news, Willy tied the game after getting knocked down in front, and won it on a brilliant OT goal. Also, the Leafs are the best.

More like:
- he was lucky in a soft way on the equalizer
- his skating on the OT goal was at best average
- the Leafs are best only because the North Division is historically bad

Get with the times Peter21 if that is your real name.

The Leafs are the best because the Toronto situation room ensures that they're always on the right side of game-making calls and keeps their rivals down.

There is no conspiration from the Toronto situation room.

They just suck at their job. It's nothing personal.

Willies man was the dude on left defense, was he supposed to be in 2 places at once?

No you're wrong, they all want to make their kids (who are leafs fan) happy by making sure that the Leafs win and certain other teams lose.

Just ask Brian Wilde.

No.

I truly believe these guys are acting as professionals.

Professionals who are terrible at what they do.

I think they suck too. They have every angle to watch.

I caught some XFL games before covid and they show how they review their plays so it has to be similar. The blatant missed calls in the NHL are crazy.

To be fair to them, they will never make everyone happy.

I refuse to believe that the situation room isn't on the Leafs' side. After all, they're in Toronto.

Wouldn't make sense if they weren't.

It'll start with the defensive pairings, specifically Dermott..
Once Lindholm circled back, Dermott froze for a few seconds behind the goal line..

Was waiting for the Ref to blow the whistle on the tying goal, but he did not. Guess he got a good look at the scramble in front while standing on back of the net. Puck was still loose, obviously. Credit to him.

It must be a very interesting play for a coach to show the players. A very typical series of 'small' mistakes that ends up with a devastating goal that easily could've been the losing goal in a tight game. Lots to learn from this one!

He had to make the ordinary saves look extraordinary, because he didn't actually make any extraordinary saves.
- Atomic Wedgie

Go look at his numbers compared to his peers in the time frame. He was a top-5 goalie for 3 consecutive years until he was injured. He may have been unorthodox, but his success speaks for itself.
