Go look at his numbers compared to his peers in the time frame. He was a top-5 goalie for 3 consecutive years until he was injured. He may have been unorthodox, but his success speaks for itself. - Monkeypunk
Palmateer was also my brothers favourite goalie growing up

I absolutely loved him, so I'm not going to argue.

If you go on a 3-game winning streak, it's only because you got the rights to French Canadian players who weren't exposed in the draft. - Atomic Wedgie
Getting the new Réjean Houle (aka a third liner and a future terrible GM) through that rule reinstated would be great.

Palmateer trivia:
He did a motor oil commercial - he protected the net like the motor oil would protect your engine.
They filmed another goalie making all the saves (with his mask on), and then at the end of the commercial, Palmateer popped off his mask to reveal it was him.
But since the stunt-double goalie was not a lefty, they had to reverse the film.
They got the goalie from the Toronto Marlboroughs, but he went on to have a successful NHL and international career of his own.
Who was the stunt-double goalie?
Edit: I can't believe I found the commercial. I franking love the internet.

Rittich played his brains out last night, I felt bad for the kid and I would have busted my goalie stick to after coming out on the short end. - Shady1962

"Mike Palmateer was the Leafs goalie every Leafs-loving-Toronto-kid of a certain age imagined themselves to be in the 1970s. His appeal was multi-pronged: he was small; he flopped around like a fish on a hook making saves; he wandered out of his crease; he thwacked the hated Steve Shutt (of the hated Montreal Canadiens) with his glove; he was a lefty; he had a super-cool mask with a blue Leaf on it — and a popcorn habit.
He was Dominik Hasek before Dominik Hasek, a goalie with quirks and ticks and miserably fragile knees..."

I've always liked Rittich, I wouldn't hate to see him replace Andersen and do 1A/1B with Campbell next season. There I said it... 😬
