If Strome is not playing center, he's not all that effective. The team, coach, and he himself have all said as much. Let's see how he does when he comes back.

I read somewhere Strome is awful winning draws against right handed centers, the word used was slaughtered.

You really need to watch a slow player with zero offensive instincts, a weak shot and not particularly good at anything? There is a reason that two other teams let him go.
- GPHawksfan

He is good at setting up goal scoring for teamattes and after all, he was drafted in round one.

His negative review though outweighs his good point.

You .might hope he is worth something less you get nothing in return for his change of address. Truthfully I wouldn't mind that at all....Less against the salary cap.

Who gives a poop when he was drafted? Raffi Torres was taken 5th overall in his draft and he was poop too. Walmark blows and Janmark is way better contrary to what some posted here at the begining of the season. I just looked up where this plug was actually drafted and it was the 4th round.

Wasn't Coleman a deadline deal too? So shows you my ability to recollect.

It seemed like good goaltending was their biggest detriment. Bob was a swing, he's always been inconsistent, but for that team at that time it was a deal that can be justified as having to make. Oops.

Making a goalie the highest paid player on your team is never a deal that can be justified.

It’s a little unfairly stacked for deals to not work out, if the criteria for ‘working out’ is winning the SC. Only 1 team can, and 15 teams don’t win it.

So, if all 16 teams playoff made a deadline move, it would only ‘work out’ 6% of the time (1 / 16 = 6.25%).

Unfair or not it's kind of the measuring stick no? You give up assets to win the Cup...or not.

What about paying two goalies a combined $11M when only one can be penciled into the lineup at a time?

Blackhawks announce roster moves:

• Collin Delia assigned to AHL’s Rockford IceHogs on conditioning assignment

• Nicolas Beaudin, Reese Johnson and Wyatt Kalynuk sent to Rockford

• Mikael Hakkarainen, Brad Morrison and Matt Tomkins elevated to taxi squad

Then you have to accept it will only work 6% of the time. The numbers would say NOT to give up future assets (picks & prospects) to try to win it all.

Yeah, that was noted by one of the broadcasters after a recent game. I don't know if that was just a recent phenomenon, all of this year, or for his career.

If he can get back to what he was to start the year, he is valuable (quite valuable). Putting him with guys like Janmark, Kurashev, Hagel (guys that can do the work to get the puck back and have a modicum of offensive talent) is ideal so that he can have someone to set up (his biggest strength IMO).

As well as they play together, ADB is a different level player than Strome. I'd rather have a more dynamic center for him.

Just my thoughts on it. Strome is on a good contract right now. Ultimately, I don't see him on the team for one of two reasons. 1) He plays well enough, and puts up enough points, to garner a notably higher contract. 2) He falls off too much and other C's pass him up.

Blackhawks priorities right now should be let the youngsters play and have fun, They will make mistakes. And 2. Clear the books on the days gone by and get serious future assets for Kane at the deadline.

No.

Just no.

You'd lose most casual fans. And no, an injured Kirby Dach, and #8 overall "Bust"-vquist aren't going to sell jerseys and renew season tickets the way #88 does.

Plus, its becoming very clear to the general public that this is no longer Jonathan Toews team, its Patrick Kanes.

Realistically, where would Kane waive to go at the deadline that could also accept a 10.5M cap hit?

Colorado? but he'd have to be gone in the off season, they have their own cap crunch looming with Makar, Mackinnon, their captain...

Buffalo? Yeah, right... the "hometown" narrative will never die though

MAYBE Florida, but highly doubtful, I'm not sure if they'd have the assets, or want to move them.

I could see a Chi/NYR trade coming this off season if NYR loses out on Eichel and Kane wants to go play with Artemi, but thats simply not happening at the deadline.

You took my comment about his NHL draft slot out of context. I simply used that to show that he does have some ability. However we agree there is no place for Strome on the team. He will likely bounce around the league and never keep a job for long. If he changes to a checking willingly physical player, he could hang on. Even if he did so here in Chicago, he would fall behind some kids whom are in Rockford or the pipeline. He cannot compensate for slowness is the bottom line. His physical checking effort could be overlooked to some extent if he skated better than my 89 year old grandmother.

At their current contracts, if both are healthy? Strome. IMO. Schmaltz's contract in intriguing in that he is locked in at just under $6M through 2026, so you are banking on him improving on his current output of 0.61 PPG to make that a decent bargain.

Strome has basically the same output, and I lean on shorter contracts for the sake of flexibility.

All of the reports that I've seen indicate that Kane has zero interest in waiving his NMC. He's one of the top leaders on this team. Almost half the team is young and hungry. He is still producing a ton of points despite the assumed lack of depth. You are not going to get an equivalent return for him. They are winning (for now), and he just had a kid.

He's not waiving.

Just to get the demoted playing time. As well not to press box any youngsters whom have played in the past few games.

It remains to be seen when Kalynuk gets a game or two. But it would be a surprise if he doesn’t. Those recalled have not played well enough to get a genuine NHL recall. And those recalled are not much but barely a prospect

Who at Rockford can replace Strome? Entwhistle is a grinder, Barrett, chalupa haven’t proved anything yet. I don’t see Strome on the team either, but Dach, Kurashev will replace him, not anyone in Rockford.
