Boqvist will get there. He is starting to play with some confidence and to me, that was what was missing more than anything. - Elbows15
I hope so, I like the fact he's concentrating on trying to be a better more responsible dman without the puck. |

Then you have to accept it will only work 6% of the time. The numbers would say NOT to give up future assets (picks & prospects) to try to win it all. - scottak
Ha! That's crap and that's the old Pully/Wirtz philosophy. They are two different conversations really no? Yes you go for it if you're in striking distance and essentially it's only successful if it gets you to the promisee land. |

He was over 60% last night.
Well, no he wasn't. They had a graphic showing at 61% on the game last night but according to hockey reference, it was 45%

NHL.com has him att 5-6=45%, too. |

Hawks are now 7-1-2 in the 2nd game of the 2-game sets this season, and 6-0-0 for their last 6. Statistical anomaly? Players adjusting / learning their competition better than the other team? Dare I suggest – coaching? - LAHawk
Outside of the first 3 losses, every loss since then has been by 1 goal, with the exception of the 5-3 loss to Carolina. Considering this team at the beginning of the year and the injuries, that's amazing. Has the defensive system clicked? We're in every game. It's almost like watching a different team out there. Hoping the wheels don't fall off considering the upcoming schedule. But loving the ride! |

Schmaltz and its not even close. - Elbows15
Don't watch a lot of Yotes games, but unless Schmaltz has decided he'd like to play along the boards and try to win battles like the current crop, I don't want him either.
The game he was playing when he was here doesn't fit the current model. Maybe he's figured it out, Idk...but no if not. |

If Nylander was a center he'd be Schmaltz. |

Tocchet calls his line “The Short Leash” line. Even though he plays with the Yotes best offensive players (Keller, Garland) Tocchet s as us he has a short leash in them because of their disinterest in playing the other facets of the game.

If there is a category for least prefered or he sucks players around the league, then I wish to enter another name to the Strome and Schmaltz brigade of unpopular players
Actually Strome's brother on the NYR
Isn't a scouting report on him very similar to the Blackhawks Strome? Specifically slow skate doesn't check or put forth much defensively effort.
Against the big bad tough Bruins tonight Strome has 1-2 for three points. His season 6 -7 for 13 pts in 18 gp including tonight.
Is it both Strome brothers much the same type player? Both drafted early first round too |

Who knows as crazy as this sounds maybe they play up to their competition. Considering how good the goalies have been playing they may actually be in every game March
But hopefully they concentrate on the game in front of them, can't take the Wings lightly |

A bandage on it already
Unfortunately there isn't any bandage or help to make either Strome brother more desirable on a team. |

Please post where you find that Ryan Strome is a slow skater? I have read just the opposite. Strome could use more strength, he is smaller than his brother 6 feet 170 pounds. He has turned his career around with the Rangers, they are very happy with him. Sad that your disdain for Strome extends to his brother. |

Exactly. The Wings did look pretty good against us the last 2 games. We'll need those points. I'm thinking we'll know where we really stand after we slug it out with these top teams coming up. You keep it close, you'll always have a chance. |

Thanks for the review. I don't dislike the NYR Strome. I was suspicious that he was much the same type player as his brother. |

Interesting that Ryan Strome didn t reach his potential until he was traded to his third team, maybe Dylan needs to be moved one more time. |

Strome can't even get to the boards when the puck is there. He doesn't fit the current model either. The question was a choice between the 2. Schmaltz is the better player.
One guy gets caved in nightly and the other at least keep the puck on the other end of the ice more often than not. |

Or were combining FOs for both games. Cause he lost only one more than he won last night. |

The line has only been together a week. So far they are trying to play a 200 ft. Game.

I specifically remember Schmaltz looking incredible at 2C to start that season when we beat the Penguins 10-1 on opening night at the UC. Schmaltz had a believe 3 maybe 4 pts that game, continued to play very well but then shortly after suffered an injury(might hav been collarbone but can’t recall) that completely ruined his season. Took him a while to recover and when he finally returned he wasn’t the same...and in fact he hasn’t been the same ever since even to this very day.
One thing he has that Strome certainly doesn’t is solid skating ability. Schmaltz is fast. And that alone makes me regret the trade, given that Strome hasn’t panned out. If anything I wish we at least had the guy with decent wheels. But oh well... |

The more I think about it, the more I like this setup for our 2021/22 forward lines if Toews returns:
Kurashev/Suter-Toews-Kubalik
DeBrincat-Suter/Kurashev-Kane
XXX-Dach-Hagel
XXX-Kampf-XXX
3rd line LW options will be endless: Janmark(if re-signed), Shaw(if he doesn’t retire), Strome, Nylander, etc.
There should also be plenty of options for 4th line wingers. Maybe we just keep Highmore and Carpenter there. Maybe we bring back Soderberg who’s been very solid and bump him down to the 4th line. Or try out some more new faces/rookies. |

If the added player gets you to the SCF it was worth the trade. Conference finals as well if the team has not made it that far in the past. |

It's highly likely next year's team will have at least 3 players not on the team or in the system this year. That's simply normal turnover. Where those players will slot is much more intriguing and will tell you how far they think they came this season. I suspect at least one more season of going with young guys unless they decide to leverage cap space with a bad contract from another team. Until they show something differently in their news, I don't expect Toews back.
