I specifically remember Schmaltz looking incredible at 2C to start that season when we beat the Penguins 10-1 on opening night at the UC. Schmaltz had a believe 3 maybe 4 pts that game, continued to play very well but then shortly after suffered an injury(might hav been collarbone but can’t recall) that completely ruined his season. Took him a while to recover and when he finally returned he wasn’t the same...and in fact he hasn’t been the same ever since even to this very day.
One thing he has that Strome certainly doesn’t is solid skating ability. Schmaltz is fast. And that alone makes me regret the trade, given that Strome hasn’t panned out. If anything I wish we at least had the guy with decent wheels. But oh well...

It's one thing to have the wheels but another to use them. Schmaltz would be better in Europe where there's more ice and space. In a playoff game in North America he'd be useless.
